Cottage Village Construction Continues! |
Six of the thirteen tiny homes being built at Cottage Village have been framed and dried-in, and three more will be erected in the coming weeks! The building of the homes has been a collaboration between SquareOne carpenters, construction interns, and community volunteers. As construction continues to gear up we currently have capacity to involve more volunteers with framing and roofing experience. If you or someone you know are interested in lending a hand, please fill out our volunteer form or stop by the site at 1430 E. Madison Ave. in Cottage Grove. |

We also received a generous grant of $5,000 from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation to help support our Resident Support Program at Opportunity Village. This is the second year the Cow Creek Foundation has funded this program, and we are thankful for their ongoing partnership. The funding from Cow Creek will provide bus passes for all Opportunity Village residents. The bus passes are essential for many of our residents, and they are much appreciated. One resident told us, “I felt like you’d given me a car!” Funds will also help residents as they work on their transition plans. Some residents need to renew their ID, get job training, pay for a work certification or course, or take other concrete steps toward employment and permanent housing. OVE residents requesting use of the Resident Support Program work with SquareOne staff to develop goals and a transition plan. For this spring round of grants, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation awarded funds to 83 nonprofit organizations in Coos, Deschutes, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lane Counties. SquareOne is proud to be among the group of Cow Creek grantees. |

Albany's Creating Housing Coalition |
In 2017 and 2018, SquareOne conducted presentations and workshops in a dozen different communities in Oregon to help spread our village model throughout the state, thanks to a capacity building grant from Meyer Memorial Trust. We're excited to share that one of those groups took a big step forward to establishing an affordable tiny home village in Albany, Oregon. Following our presentation and workshop, a group known as the Creating Housing Coalition has been hard at work developing plans to build a village in their community. That work paid off last month when they received a $67,000 grant to help move forward with their project. We are excited to see where this opportunity leads, and it is this kind of progress that motivates us to keep sharing our village model with others to the best of our ability! |
