Greetings Brethren! I hope that you are looking forward to this Independence Day weekend. Since become a Mason, each Independence Day I take pride thinking about the men who founded our country, and how many of |
|
|
them were influenced by the virtues of our historic institution. It’s even more amazing to ponder that some of those men once occupied our beloved Masons' Hall. There have been a number of articles recently written about the health benefits of getting enough sleep (and more specifically the benefits of napping). Well educated doctors and scientists are using high tech imaging equipment to detect the positive changes in the brains of those who get enough rest. But those of us who paid attention to the worshipful master when he presented us with the working tools of an entered apprentice, were given a key to this knowledge, when we were presented with the 24-inch gauge. Sometimes we just have to slow down enough to see the beauty of the lessons that are being taught by the working tools. Simple, but important lessons on how to live our lives. If you haven’t purchased your ticket for the Table Lodge on July 19, please do so soon. Instructions are included in this bulletin. It will allow us to plan accordingly for correct amount of people. Please be safe this weekend. I look forward to seeing you all soon. Sincerely and Fraternally, Shane Flansburg, WM Richmond Randolph Lodge #19 AF & AM |

Masonic Condescension & Servant Leadership by Brother David Allen
The charge read to Master Masons in some jurisdictions includes the following, which can be found in the presentation volume. "…it is your province to recommend to your inferiors obedience and submission; to your equals, courtesy and affability; and your superiors, kindness and condescension." This will sound strange to new Masons, particularly the “condescension” point. In modern usage, condescension means to have a patronizing attitude or behavior. How could that possibly work with kindness together? | | |

Newspaper article from sometime around 1867... "REOPENING OF MASONS' HALL, ON FRANKLIN STREET -- This building, situated on Franklin between Eighteenth and Nineteenth streets, is one of the oldest in the city, having been erected previous to 1790, and has been ever since used for Masonic purposes. The associations which cluster around it are therefore peculiarly sacred to the brethren of the "Mystic Tie," and it has been recently remodelled (sic) and renovated with a view to its preservation. The windows have been enlarged. The old hand-rail and balusters have been removed, and elegant new ones of walnut and oak put in their places. New floors have been laid in the refreshment and reception room and the former, with the lodge room, wainscoted..." |
