From The President It hardly seems possible that we have grown so much since we first purchased the land for The Red back in February. But here we are with 12 animals, and an amazing team of volunteers and staff members. We wanted to send out a little news about what's been going on to our supporters and followers, with a full newsletter to come in the near future. We have so much to be grateful for! - Susan Vogt, Board President |

Bursting but Blessed! The Red took in four new rescues, from 2 separate situations, in a period of a week and a half. As a new, and not yet open to the public facility, this was a large commitment but it was necessary. Two of the animals came from Eastern Ohio from a neglect situation in an illegal area. The other Two came from a local owner who became too ill to care for them. Our friends at Joseph’s Legacy reached out to us asking for our help. We have fallen in love with all four of these animals. The Youngstown boys, Spike and Anubis, each lived in a 5 x 5 garage pen for their entire lives. At two-and-a half years old they now finally enjoy grass, sky, pools and toys. They have enrichment. We are committed to these two funny boys. The local boys, Finn and Lava, need to add weight and regain their health. They were malnourished on arrival and needing a special diet. Lava has moved himself into our hearts with his gentle, kind temperament. Finn has warmed our hearts in a different way. He presents as a tough guy but he is really just scared and wants to be good. Each of these animals will receive love as if they are our own pets. |

Our Amazing Team: A Melting Pot of Cultures and Experience Julie Dearmin, our lead animal caretaker/vet assistant comes to The Red from NC via Texas. Her 30 years of experience running a greyhound rescue makes her well suited for assisting us with everything from record-keeping and vet care to grant writing. But we love just listening to her talk---that southern hospitality pulls us in. Caretakers and land management team Douglas Glidden and Karen Tracy have landed at the Red from the mountains of Colorado, with their own pack of animals, including four wolfdogs, and a ton of experience. Doug is a professional photographer as well, so look for his amazing photos to start gracing our website. He may even play his guitar at future events on the property! We also have three amazing staff members who have become invaluable to us: Mike Pflieger has been with us since February. He has built dog houses, made road trips to NC to pick up materials, and worked in freezing temperatures. Braden Matt has also been with us since February and nothing in that back field would have been built were it not for him. We can never say thank you enough to him for the toil he put into that chain link fence work! It was all mostly his doing! Anne Scott is a more recent addition who has also quickly become a tremendous asset and friend, both inside, and out in the field building. Our group of volunteers also grows every week to include a diverse group that enjoys working in, around, and for our animals. These individuals are the heart and soul of our project! The Mayor’s people works for us! The Mayor of Rabbit Hash, KY is a handsome, though rather short, French Bulldog named Wilbur. (REALLY!) Wilbur campaigned for The Red back in June and delivered two freezers full of meat, both deer and beef. We loved the mayor and his chauffeur so much, (who also runs several tax businesses in Ohio and Kentucky) that we asked her if she would serve as our treasurer. She said YES! So Amy Noland has become our newest, deeply appreciated, member of the board. And we promise there were no scraps tossed under the table to get this deal! |

Officers at the Red! On August 19, the Butler County Deputy Dog Warden Megan Neihaus and her team visited The Red Riding Hood Rescue Project. The friendly communications over the past seven months with the warden and RRH co-founder and board president Susan Vogt, resulted in a nice afternoon of the visitors meeting the residents of The Red, both four- and two-legged. Interestingly, we were proud to be informed that our facility gets a Gold Star. Spike splashed in his pool for them, Mesa trotted along the fence as they walked by, Finn squeaked a toy, breaking the afternoon quiet. The warden and her team marveled at how calm it felt. We are grateful to have an open line of communication with them as they have been on the receiving end of wolfdogs or wolfdog lookalikes and are grateful to have us in the community. |

Winter is Coming! A water line is needed We now ask for your help. We are in great need for a reliable year-round source of water for our animals. We don’t have a water line in the field. The animals are housed too far from the house so our temporary solution has been to fill a large water tank weekly and sit it high up in the field with hoses to provide fresh water daily to the dogs. But that source won't work once the temperatures drop, and tapping a well isn't feasible. The most cost-effective way to provide fresh water year round to the animals, and to have frost-free spigots is to tap into our private water line at the barn and run it down to where the animals are located. We need your support to provide this water source before winter. The estimated cost is about $5000 so our need is great! Can you help us? Can you spread the word? Can you become a monthly sponsor or share a few dollars? Every little bit helps and we would be most grateful. You can help by donating TODAY on our website, through PayPal (our PayPal email is info@rrh-project.com), Venmo (@RedRidingHoodRescueProject-Red) or check (mail to PO Box 42128 Cincinnati, OH 45242)! We are a team of volunteers. Every one of us. And we thank you for being a part of our ever growing team. |
