On the Emancipation Timeline, December 1865 was not when slaves were freed,

but when enslaved African Americans were freed.

The Seattle Public Library and the African-American Writers' Alliance invite you to a four-part intergenerational series that celebrates Black joy and brilliance with local authors from African-American Writers’ Alliance, storytellers, youth, and elders from Seattle’s Black community.
