Happy New Year to you! We, the Bugthorpe website group, have been racking our brains over the last month or so to plan some exciting village events for the next 12 months. With uncertainty still looming over us we do not know if these can be face to face, socially distanced, or enjoyed from the confines of our own homes, however despite this, we are hoping they will all be enjoyable none the less. From spring and Easter, to warm summer events and finally back to autumn harvest and Christmas, we will try our hardest to organise things to keep us together as a community...So keep your eyes peeled! If you have anything you would like advertising on the website, or in the next newsletter please let us know at bugthorpevillage@gmail.com |

With the first snowdrops out in the church yard and we long for the start of spring, please look out for details of the 'Bugthorpe Birds and the Bees project'. As the days lengthen we will have available wild flower seeds as well as a selection of bird boxes to encourage birds and bees into Bugthorpe. We have carefully chosen flowers that are great for the bees so it's going to be really interesting learning about this as we go. You will also receive some information on why and how this helps them, so it will be a really fun and interesting project for Bugthorpe's young residents. The school already has plans to plant a wildflower meadow in the school grounds once they return so please join them and start wondering where you could plant wild flower seeds or put up a bird box in your garden. We will be releasing more information on this soon and will let you know how you can join in! |

As you will have seen, the village Christmas trees have now been taken down. It was quite sad to turn off the lights and take the Memory Baubles down, the village has looked bright and festive bringing some hope and cheer in strange times. Thank you to everyone who made such beautiful baubles and for sharing precious memories. Most of the baubles survived wind, rain and snow and can now be collected by their owners. They will be put on a table under the shelter at the village hall next Saturday and Sunday, 16th and 17th January, ready for collection. Any that are unclaimed will be left in the porch at 4 Stephenwath Lane for people to collect at their convenience. £213 has been sent to St Leonard’s Hospice in York, a wonderful result. |

The ladies of the Halifax Estates Office donned their Father Christmas costumes to embark on a ‘Santa Run’ through Bugthorpe in aid of Dove House Hospice. A huge well done to Sue, Sarah, Tracey, Pam, Rebecca and Julie for raising an incredible £1,400. A remarkable achievement, once again demonstrating generosity and kindness. The Santa Ladies would like to thank everyone for their support which was hugely appreciated by them and of course by the Hospice itself. |

To follow the guidance of the Government our local churches have decided to remain closed for the time being. They are not alone in this, in the Times on Saturday (9th January), it was reported that over half the churches in England, as well as a large number of mosques and synagogues have decided to close for the time being. The churches at Bugthorpe, Kirby Underdale and Bishop Wilton will remain open for private prayer. A service is still being streamed every Sunday at 10am, and if you miss this you can still access the service. The link to the service can be found on our calendar each Sunday. If anyone would like prescriptions, or anything, collecting from Pocklington please contact Linda and Mike and they will be happy to assist you. |

Local Walks on the Website |
Have you looked at the new website feature! We are now up to FIVE local walking routes on the website with accompanying directions, maps and photographs. The walks are of different lengths catering for all abilities but all allow the walker to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of the area in which we live – the views are breath taking. Have you decided to explore any of these walks yet? If you do feel free to send us any photos! Thank you to Katherine Robinson for presenting these walks so clearly for us all to enjoy safely, her work is very much appreciated. |

History and Gallery on the Website |
The website team is very grateful to Kit Richardson for not only designing our website but for keeping it up to date and looking so bright and attractive. The HISTORY and GALLERY section can be found at the far right of the home page menu. There you will find a brief account of the history of Bugthorpe and wonderful photographs of times past and present, just like the one below. As ever we would be very happy to receive any photographs of Bugthorpe over the years to add to this valuable archive. Thank you to Ruth Beckett and Katherine Robinson for their detailed contributions to the site. |
