What it's like to get COVID-19 in NYC |

Hi! So, if you saw last week's newsletter, you may have noticed I talked about quarantining. That's because I tested positive for COVID-19. I know how serious the virus is, but luckily, my symptoms were very mild, I'm ok, and I'm now negative. Danielle in Doodles is a way for me to tell stories about my life and experiences and contextualize events with my own perspective and sense of humor. I was hesitant to share this, but I wanted to turn the experience into doodles to show other people what it's like. (In case you're wondering, I don't know how I got it, and yes, I told everyone I'd seen and they got tested. My contact tracer even told me everyone should be as thorough as me.) Below are doodles about my experience getting COVID and waiting on long lines, then and now. And, some feedback from a celebrity featured in last week's newsletter. Also, in my isolation I made a Facebook page, like it here! |

Here's what happened after I found out I had COVID-19 |

I'm grateful to the city, contact tracers, and everyone who checked in. I'm happy to be free and healthy. |

My interpretation of needing to stay away from people, inspired by Taylor Swift's song "exile" |
Taylor Swift and Bon Iver's song, "exile," (album art above), is about a breakup. I had a breakup with society these past two weeks, which I thought would be enough to keep everyone else safe. But then, to my dismay, on Friday I accidentally sent a coworker a computer virus. Wear your mask and double check documents before you hit send. Stay safe! |

In NYC, we're used to waiting on ridiculous lines. They're different now. |
Since the pandemic started, we've been seeing lines everywhere because of increased demand for some services coupled with distancing and limited capacity. I saw an email about cityMD reducing hours because of demand, and a friend called to tell me she had to get there at 7 am, wait on line, just to await a callback to return for her test. So thank you to my friend, Alex, for inspiring this one. Oh, and my sister asked if I really waited on line for Sweetgreen (a popular salad place). Yes, multiple times, with Alex! (PS, I'm going to post this with two "bonus lines" on Instagram later this week, so follow if you use it!) |

Celebrity endorsement for my Emily in Paris vs. Danielle in Paris doodle! |
AH! I posted the Emily in Paris doodle on Instagram last week and Lily Collins - Emily herself - commented. We (my sisters and I) are still not over it. It'd be even more exciting if she shared it with her 21 million followers, but I'll take what I can get. Tell everybody I'm on my way (digitally). Happy Thanksgiving! I'm grateful for Lily and everyone who has been engaged with these doodles, merci! |
