My sweet friends,
I write to you today on a rainy afternoon in late September. Through my window I watch the sun endeavor its way through the clouds. I hear the sound of large raindrops thumping against the windows. My home is still and quiet, the baby, dog and cat all taking a nap. This is one of the first days that I truly sense the presence of autumn. I am in awe of this time of year- how perfect it appears and so seemingly fleeting in nature. I can't help but sense the preciousness of my time. How do I fill that time most meaningfully? I perceive a pull in two separate directions: to be at leisure, to go slow AND also to spark up some energy to resolve big changes necessary in work, at home, to the inner self, as I ready for the slumber of winter's solstice. The answer is "yes", it is both. As short as it seems, this sweet space, this threshold that is autumn, gives us room to more keenly become aware of our own shifting, of our endings and beginnings, of our natural rhythm and flow.
One example is the play of light. I see such beauty in early twilight at this time of year, gifting longer darker nights (ideal with a little one). It reminds me that the darkness and the light are one, that there is no new dawn without the night. Their seeming separateness disguises an integration that reflects the unity and oneness of life, an unfathomable dance of opposites. This paradox is the very essence of what it is to be alive: astonishment and fear, illness and health, joy and discomfort, steadiness and flow, leisure and busyness...
As you reflect on this season of your life, offer yourself a bountiful harvest of both play and rest, effort and ease, shadow and light. Own your intentions, asking what it is you need more of, of what you can let go, what to set aside and what to now pick up (thank you, Jerry). May you keep a sense of humor and grace, never forgetting that the you who embarks on this life change will not be the person to reap its benefits or woes when the process is complete. Neither are you the person who made decisions in the past. You are only connected by memory, by cause and effect and to the degree you embrace living your intentions. Be alive now. Fully reside in that cozy nest where thought and action reside, benefitting you and those you love.
Remembering these truths brings me confidence as we flow into a new season. My dear friends I wish this confidence for your heart. We will get through.
May your aspirations and intentions shine most brightly.
May your inner and outer life be of balance and harmony.
May the darkness be your light.
Holding all the paradox with compassion and wonder,
Meg (and Team Heart)
