March 2020 - Spring is just around the corner!

HEY FRIENDS!

I've had a very busy winter...

I took some wonderful trips to Berlin and Cuba with our fantastic JAZZ.FM91 donors... I've worked very hard programming the music for the Jazz Bistro... Lorenzo DiGianfelice and I are very hard at work prepping exciting releases for our label Vesuvius Music that I can't wait to tell you all about very soon... And of course... I've been having some exquisite musical parties at Chez Bee and company.

Hey, would you like to be invited to one of my private salons? The simplest way to be invited is to donate on Patreon!

$5, $10 $20 a month... You'll help support my Vodcast and many projects and in return I will invite you to an exclusive musical party in my home.

Hey here's something fun... My friend David Clayton-Thomas has a funny new video out for his latest single "The Circus", from his upcoming album Say Somethin' on Linus Entertainment to be released later this month. Check it out!

THE JAZZ BISTRO

This month some incredible jazz vocalists grace the Jazz Bistro stage. Just look at this list!

Carolyn Credico Sunday March 8

HEATHER LUCKHART'S BIRTHDAY CABARET Saturday March 7

YVETTE TOLLAR'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Saturday March 14

Alex Samaras Sunday March 15

Eric Yves Garcia Sunday March 22

Lori Cullen Saturday March 28

Tracy Michailidis Sunday March 29

And then there is what I like to call “thick jazz”. Gia & The Unpredictable Update is a sextet made up of some of the very best jazz musicians in the city, who obviously aren’t afraid of prog rock. Rich Brown and Jacek Kochan also will be blowing minds this month at Jazz Bistro!

Did somebody say “real jazz”? The always tasteful Mark Eisneman Quartet appears, The Koffman-Hiltz Quartet, Daniel Barnes/Girma Woldemichael’s Ethio Jazz, and the Aldo Lopez Gavilan Trio in from Cuba! Also, the famous Estonian pianist (signed to ECM) Kristjan Randalu will appearing for two nights with special guests Mike Murley (Thursday March 26th) and Genevieve Marentette (Friday March 27th).

I would love to keep listing all of the performances that I've programmed at this wonderful club over the next few months... but I think you'll bee overwhelmed! So please subscribe to the Jazz Bistro newsletter, like the Facebook Page and check out the calendar at jazzbistro.ca :) I look forward to seeing you in the club soon!

ADAM MAKOWICZ

Live at Glenn Gould Theatre

March 27, 2020

The poster says “Adam is returning to Toronto for one last performance!” I hope this is like Oliver Jones or The Who… artists who have more than one Farewell Tour! Adam is one of the most unique and brilliant musicians I’ve ever seen in concert. He’s bringing up his New York rhythm section and guest Daniel Wnukowski as well… a little classical and a lot of jazz.

I am celebrating 18 years of hosting Jazz In The City… which now airs every Thursday night from 9pm-Midnight. I continue to host local and international Jazz Safaris and promote the various concerts the station produces throughout the year. I love it! https://jazz.fm/donate/

Thursday March 12

I’m always so proud of the young musicians who play with the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band. They rise to every occasion and while they are no doubt talented, they are also very lucky to get to have Jules Estrin as their bandleader, conductor, teacher and coach. They also have shared the stage with some big names in jazz.

Joey DeFrancesco, Guido Basso and this year the special guest of the YBB is bassist Brandi Disterheft a once Toronto-based, BC born virtuoso currently living in New York City. She picked up a Juno for her very first album and continues to make incredible jazz, album after album.   CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS

My Kinda Jazz - A Celebration of Jeff Healey

You like Trad Jazz? You better show up for this…the “trad-diest” concert in town... Just look at the line-up and I’ll see you there!

The Jazz Wizards: Jesse Barksdale (guitar), Colin Bray (bass), Drew Jurecka (violin), Reide Kaiser (piano), Dave Kosmyna (trumpet), Gary Scriven (drums), Ross Wooldridge (clarinet), Christopher Plock (reeds and vocals) and Terra Hazelton (vocals). CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS

And finally….SAVE THE DATE!

Tuesday April 14th at Old Mill Toronto is my birthday bash and annual mega-concert to raise money for Unison Benevolent Fund. 20 bands in 10 rooms for four hours! $50 gets you a writsband that allows you into all the rooms… Stay for a set or pop in for a few tunes and work the entire building!
