Open Football Community

We believe in the integration of unaccompanied minors through the power of sports.

OFC seeks to create a safe space for unaccompanied minors to channel their energy into a healthy and productive outlet through football and promote personal growth, focusing on skill development and mental health, embraced by a sense of community.

Thousands of unaccompanied minors have reached the Greek island of Lesvos since the peak of the refugee crisis in 2015. Not only do these minors face precarity in their asylum decisions, but they are also stuck in an awkward limbo between childhood and adulthood. There is a significant gap in creating the foundation for and developing the skills to transition to adulthood; without this, personal development for these children is stunted.

For seven years, Asterias-Starfish Foundation has worked to address these gaps and in June of this year it was decided to start the collaboration with Iliaktida AMKE and their team of 15 unaccompanied minors. That was the moment when Open Football Community (OFC) was created and since then, our team has grown to more than 110 teenagers from 8 different countries.
