What's News Worthy?

You know how they say "time flies when you're having fun"?

Well let me tell you...time has definitely flown by!

I blinked and next thing I knew, I had been in Los Angeles for a whole year!!

Move Date: 14 March 2023

Okay...it wasn't that simple.

If you've been around for a while, you know this year has not been an easy one.

If you are new to the party, you can read about some if it here, in the July newsletter.

The struggle started while trying to find a job while the Industry was on strike. Which snowballed into the struggle of surviving in Los Angles: food, gas, living expenses...

I was barely surviving without having a steady income, and relied on help from family, which wasn't easy to ask them for the help.

The years leading up to my move (more like starting in 2019), I had one song that would constantly resonate with me - "Waymaker" (English and Spanish) - and during the struggles of the past year, I would always cry when it came on my worship playlist, especially at the bridge (see below).

On July 15th, I started listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope, as I was opening at Cold Stone Creamery - he was talking about Psalms 23, specifically verse 5a. No sooner had I finished listening to the podcast that day , that I received an email asking if I would accept the Part-Time Job at RMALA, and started that Monday, on the 17th (see July's newsletter linked above).

Now when people ask me how I'm doing, I tell them I'm treading water, and headed towards shallow waters. I no longer feel like I'm drowning in the deep end.

I know my struggles are not over, but I can at least keep my head above the waves.

Even when I don't see it, You're working
Even when I don't feel it, You're working
You never stop, You never stop working
You never stop, You never stop working

Aunque no pueda ver estás obrando
Siempre estás, siempre estás obrando

(Even though I can't see, You're working

You are always working)

Christmas & New Years

I went to Kingman AZ for Christmas this year, I wasn't able to go home again and one of my best friends and their family invited me out.

We went to the Grand Canyon one day, which was my first time visiting.

On New Year's Day, I drove to Phoenix to catch up with some more friends of mine.

Happy New Year!

2024 has been a blast so far, with many more adventures to go!

January was especially fun, as I got to surprise my mother for her birthday! She had no idea I was coming. I was able to plan it out with my dad, brother and sister-in-law, plus a couple other friends, who's help I would need in order for the surprise to take place.

The surprise had been planned since July / August, and everything went according to plan. Well almost...had some issues with travel getting to Springfield MO from Kansas City MO, but I was able to get it pulled off with the help of a couple great friends, and my amazing aunt.

I had a great time visiting family and friends again.

I'm excited to see how the Spring season goes, as well as into the Summer.

Upcoming Plans

Some plans I still have in the works, if I can make them work!:

  • Make a few trips to Las Vegas, as my bowlers are in a tournament there and since I can't always go home when I need, I'll have to settle for small road trips to see my support group and support them, and it'll help my mental health

  • Join a couple societies, so I can start going to networking events and screenings. There are a few to choose from, and they're all good options too!

    • Society of Lyrists and Composers (SCL)

    • Alliance for Women Film Composers (AWFC)

    • American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC)

    • Academy of Scoring Arts (ASA)

Pictures!

Arizona Adventures

My friend and I hiked a little bit down into the canyon

There were a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" at this point

Apparently you don't have to go to London to visit the London Bridge

Went out on the trails with the ATV a couple times!

Visited Oatman AZ

They had wild donkeys that would roam the streets

Birthday Surprise

One of the best hugs out there, after the surprise was given.

I think this will definitely be a birthday to remember for my mom.

I was able to capture it on video too!

My mom dropped me off with my friend at a restaurant in Kansas City, since my friend was taking me to the airport the next day.
