This photo was taken as I was about to land in El Paso. In Tequila Midnight, I mention The mountains that cut through El Paso, and this is a great aerial view looking into east El Paso. On the west side of the mountains is more of El Paso, and downtown is at the tip.
There are also mountains in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, just across the border, and the Rio Grande runs through the gap, creating the "pass" that is "El Paso." El Paso's Franklin Mountains are a state park and are home to deer, mountain lions, hidden springs, and a wide range of flora and fauna.
