Happy New Year

Hello Family--

We have reached the end of 2020. And while we can all agree it has been a year of tremendous tragedy, disarray, disregard and loss, it has also been a year of huge love and growth. We hope that everyone can find a piece of fortitude and inspiration in the renewed waves of commitment to care for each other, not only in our own communities, but in communities across the nation and across the world.

To make it to the end of this year is a huge feat in itself--please know that just by being here, you are already doing more than enough. But to also show up in the ways that you all have, to find the capacity within you to support actions against injustices, to make the necessary sacrifices to protest racism and oppression, to contribute to mutual aid efforts that protect people, to care for those in your community: that is sublime. And while our work continues into the new year with fervor, we are thankful to take a moment to look back on our collective efforts throughout the last 6 months of 2020:

We are exceedingly proud of our volunteers and our partners; we have the biggest love in our hearts for everyone. When we look at the growth we experienced this past year, we find hope in how many people have joined in making the lifelong commitment to show up for each other, to abolish oppressive institutions, to transform and build new systems and to love one another always. And as we start the new year, we look still at the many people who are yet to join.

At Water Drop LA, we bring all we have learned and unlearned in 2020 with us. We look forward to enacting long-term solutions crafted from extensive discussion with and input from the community. We will continue to have conversations with the City about permanent infrastructure and aim to build those talks into tangible outcomes. We are humbled and excited to expand our work with organizers in Oxnard and Coachella, providing water and other basic necessities for campesinx (farmworker) groups.

Our hope is that we can build the support necessary to achieve sustainable solutions to water insecurity and inaccessibility through coalitions, advocacy, and empowering folks to thrive in a healthier community.

If 2020 has shown us anything it is that as humans, we need each other. Community care, love and aid makes a world of difference. We were never meant to carry everything on our own. Take care of yourself and each other, today, tomorrow, and always.

With love,

Water Drop LA

Remember that you are enough as is

It is enough to just be okay

To just be breathing to exist in this space

It is okay if your only resolution is to be

Okay to be safe to be well

They tell us to set intentions, to make

Goals

To measure the validity of our lives and our souls

Based on what we produce, our output.

It is enough to just be

Okay

To take care of yourself and your loved ones

Your family of neighbors and rivers and trees

Breathe in your humanity

It is okay to hone your power and shout love and set boundaries and weed the toxins and

Begin, gloriously

Be gentle with yourself, and abundant.
