The Thriving Communities Grants Program Round 2 has been announced. This time the grant program is being run internally by the Department of Communities with grants up to $20K being available and a total of $800K up for grabs. You can find out more here: | | |

| | Neighbourhood Centres nationwide can apply for grants up to $8000 in the "Active Neighbourhoods for Older Australians" initiative. You must be a member of the QFCA to apply for this program which is a partnership between the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA), Musculoskeletal Australia and the University of Sydney. | | |

| | Neighbourhood Centres are often working on the frontline. ABC Sunshine Coast reports on increasing homeless issues in the area and speaks with Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre who are directly responding to the housing crisis. Community Development Coordinator Mark Ellis stated "We as a community need to stand up and say enough is enough, we need to actually change the way decision makers think, because at the end of the day, they're not thinking about homelessness, they're thinking about what's going to get them over the line". Redland Community Centre is holding a children's Easter Event with a BBQ, colouring competition, Easter Eggs and face painting. Meanwhile, Cadbury has created a symbol of unity to respond to increased hostility over the Easter period. | | |

| | There's a whole heap of free Child Abuse Prevention Training workshops being held by NAPCAN around the state. If your Neighbourhood or Community Centre works with children, it's great training for your volunteers and staff. | | |

| | The Emerging Minds Community Trauma toolkit contains resources to help and support adults and children before, during, and after a disaster or traumatic event. It will help local communities understand some of the impacts of disaster and how centres can help lessen these impacts. | | |

| | After 11 fantastic years at Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania, last week EO John Hooper announced he will be moving onto a new role as CEO of NILS Tasmania. Formerly working in the sunny state of Queensland, he will be greatly missed on the board of the ANHCA. | | The Community Connect Worker program is a trial by the Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors in 12 Neighbourhood Centres around Queensland. Extended until June 2019, the QFCA has recently compiled a report about the trial and its effectiveness in a number of Queensland Neighbourhood and Community Centres.
