EarthCARE, short for Earth Cloud Aerosol and Radiation Explorer, is a satellite jointly developed by ESA and JAXA. The satellite will monitor the impact of clouds and aerosols on the Earth's climate system. The satellite will carry four instruments that will measure the vertical structure, cloud top information, multispectral overview and radiation budget of clouds and aerosols.
The satellite has undergone extensive testing in Europe and is now ready to be shipped to the launch site in California. It is expected to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in May 2024
Mid November a science and validation workshop takes place at ESA - ESRIN in Frascati, Italy.
