Failure

Failure, how do you define it? Are you scared to fail? Do you think you are failing now? What does failure mean to you?

I think knowing how to define failure for yourself is by showing up, putting yourself in the arena, doing the thing you have always wanted to do. I don’t think you can define failure if you don’t try. You actually have to show up and do something to fail. If you don’t go for something you want, it’s like you are failing ahead of time. Don’t be afraid to fail… if at first you don’t succeed you LEARN.

The worst part of failing is the emotion that comes with the feeling of not succeeding, but if you can learn what that feels like and process through your emotions and allow yourself to feel them… failure can be harmless. And you can choose to think that you have failed in any situation, or you can choose to turn your failed attempt into a lesson. Keep showing up and learning what works and what doesn’t. My coach has taught me that if you aren’t willing to fail 100 times, you aren’t truly willing to succeed.

By all means, you can stay comfortable if you want to… but I believe that you can succeed with the power of your mind and by getting to know your tolerance for failure. When you are afraid that you won’t win or won’t succeed you stop yourself from even trying because you don’t want to be uncomfortable during the process or with the result if you don’t make it. If you keep showing up and keep trying, you can gain more knowledge about yourself and become a stronger human being. You can get comfortable with being uncomfortable and you will start to trust yourself and your willingness to move forward, even though you will most likely fail. If you always make failure a part of the process, you can open up to more possibilities for yourself.

How many times have you failed today, how many times have you failed this week? I hope you can count how many times, because it proves that you are showing up. You can either win or you can learn and that is how I choose to define failure.

Keep showing up, keep failing, keep learning…. You will succeed.
