Steel Plate Range Range Improvement (Pic Above)

Due to deteriorating asphalt, and to mitigate water issues, we upgraded the pavilion floor to concrete.

Thanks to Franco Concrete (LFSC Member) for another outstanding job!

A BIG THANKS to member Elaine Weitzen for spending several days meticulously painting all of the steel on the range while it was closed for concrete work. It hasn't been painted in a long time, and took 22 cans of large size spray paint to complete the job. She asks that you try not to hit any of her paint work...Ha Ha Ha!

If you use the Steel Plate Range, please consider "touching up" the steel you shot at with white paint.

Due to reports of muzzle sweeping of others in the range, and towards the roadway, we've moved the firearms handling tables to the shooting line. Please! Only handle firearms at the shooting line, and with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Of course, this applies to all ranges!

Future .22 Rimfire Steel Plate Range

Preliminary discussions have taken place regarding the addition of a .22 Rimfire ONLY Steel Plate Range. The range would be located on the right side of the existing Steel Plate Range. The new range would need to be separated from the existing, so a berm would be required, in addition to specific rimfire targets, pavilion, etc.

Clubhouse Backup Generator

We purchased, and have almost completed the installation of a Generac 26KW Backup Generator.

We have many power outages at LFSC! When we have power outages, they usually last for a long time, especially if it's due to a tree falling on the lines. In the winter time, if we have a power outage, we have no boiler power, and no boiler power means no heat, and no heat means potential for frozen/spitting water pipes. We had a low temp monitor installed a few years ago by our alarm company, and had to respond to below freezing conditions in the clubhouse. More importantly, we needed to do this for the safety of those in the clubhouse if a power failure occurs.

This was a huge project to complete! It wasn't a matter of setting the generator in place and turning it on. An enormous amount of planning and prep work had to be done, including: installing a natural gas line; installing a concrete pad; installing a ground rod grid; installing a Transfer Switch panel; cleaning up our existing breaker panel; running conduit from generator to panel, and other anomalies along the way. All work was done to code in preparation for inspection and sign off.

A HUGE THANK YOU To Board Member Bob Beveridge for taking on this project. Bob did the planning, shopped for the generator and supplies, and performing most of the work. Also thanks to members: Dennis DiPalma, Al Tsounos, and Bill Beech for their assistance, and to an anonymous member for donating some very expensive electrical components.

New Indoor Range Target Backer Hanger System (Pic Above)

We have eliminated the metal T-Bar target backer hangers, and replaced with plasticized cardboard. The metal T-bars were a source of ricochets and possible injury. There are sample hanging instructions located on glass windows. Please follow hanging instructions so targets are mounted for proper trajectory, and to prevent range damage. The white plasticized hangers are meant to mount the backer only, not the target you shoot at.

Additional Asphalt Paving

Additional areas were paved to provide more suitable parking areas, and eliminate maintenance in those areas.

New LED Street Lights

We now have five new LED street lights in various locations, three of which illuminate the main parking lot area. Thanks to an anonymous member for arranging the work at very minor cost to the club.

Safety & Orientation Meetings

(FREE to Existing Members)

We have created a Safety & Orientation Meeting for our new members, but it's also available for our existing members at no charge.  This orientation covers firearms safety, general firearm types, firearms care & storage, LFSC range rules & etiquette, and more.  We have four orientations in 2023/2024.  They are: December 16, 2023, January 20, 2024, February 17, 2024, & March 16, 2024.

We strongly recommend attending this meeting if you're a new gun owner, an existing member that never attended an orientation, or to reacquaint yourself with firearms safety and club rules.

It's been our experience that those that have recently joined, therefore mandated to attend the orientation, are very aware and diligent about firearms safety, and following club rules.  We can't tell you how many times a long time member is confronted about a situation, and the response is: "I didn't Know" or "When did that change" or "It wasn't that way before."  Times are different than years ago, and the club changes also.  In today's environment, we as a club, can't afford, and won't tolerate behavior that will jeopardize the well being of our outstanding organization.

If you're not up to date on club rules, club enhancements, and firearms safety, please attend an orientation meeting!  Simply email lfscmail@gmail.com and include your name with the number of attendees.  If you have a family membership, all family members can attend at no charge.

Business Meetings

The monthly business meetings will now be held on the 1st Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.  These meetings are open to all members, and pre-approved guests.
