On Wednesday, May 11, 2022 P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. Harlem, along with local residents, community leaders and local elected officials, joined forces to urge the New York City Council to stop the conversion of 34 Morningside Ave in Harlem. The current proposal for 34 Morningside Avenue would expose the building and surrounding area to increased gentrification and displacement. P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. strongly advocates for the City to fulfill its original promise of affordable homeownership offered by Tenant Interim Lease Program (TIL) and focus on empowering current tenants and their local communities rather than developers and their future profits.

P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” on Thursday to talk  about the 34 Morningside Avenue development project. Accompanied by Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan who represents the area and Councilwoman Carmen de la Rosa who is a member of the subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings and Dispositions.

Alma Realty Behaving Badly Again

We are getting ready to fight Alma Realty/GVS Properties in Housing Court. These folks just don’t want to do right by the tenants of the Hamilton Heights Tenants Association. They continue to put families at risk. Simply put, they have not learned a thing after our court case at 600 West 161 Street case- GVS Properties v. Vargas:
“Since the building as presently configured varies substantially from what the certificate of occupancy permits and that the health and safety of all building residents are affected, the landlord is barred from collecting rent for the entire building.” The tenants, in this case, were represented by this year’s gala honoree, Jesse Gribben of Himmelstein McConnell Gribben & Joseph LLP - a tenant law firm that we are proud to call one of our strategic legal partners.

Hold the line on stabilized rents, NYC: It's a moral and economic imperative

While NYCHA Stalled on Fixing Rent Aid Glitch, Tenants Suffered, Say Lawyers

New York City Housing Authority management last week claimed that when they discovered a computer glitch had caused thousands of tenants to receive erroneous letters cutting off their rent subsidies, they "immediately" halted the termination program. "No residents or voucher holders have been adversely impacted by this technical error," they insisted.
