January News

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We hope you had a wonderful holiday and may your tennis dreams come true in 2022!!

We had a great turn out for our Annual Holiday Tournament

The Men’s Open Singles final showcased Robert Batdorf Jr and one of our former junior players Mason Spottek.  Batdorf after falling down quickly was able to change his strategy and come out on top in this hard fought match 8-6.

The Women’s Open Singles final brought Amanda Spottek and Ewelina Holdrege together.  Both of these women are very involved and had family members playing in the tournament as well.  Amanda was able to hold off Ewelina 6-3, 6-2.

In the Mixed Doubles event the family duo of Amanda Spottek and Issac Spottek (pic below right) found themselves playing against Joey Hommel and Bridget Martin (pic below left).  This was a great battle until the end.  Hommel and Martin were the eventual winners 8-5.

Congratulations to all of those who participated and made this such a great event once again.  Congratulation to the Spottek family on a great showing as well!

We had a fantastic turn out for our first annual Discovery Center Pickleball Fundraiser.  16 teams competed on Monday afternoon after Christmas. BTC's first pickleball tournament.  This event attracted players from both here and throughout the region. We raised $3000  for the Discovery Center!  Congratulations to winners Tony Giaccone & Shane Mattice. Runners up Pat Sullivan & John Waldmann.

And a Big thank you to Brenda Myers for running such a fun event!

Junior Tennis:

We are continuing to bring exciting events to our Junior Program.  We are entering the 2nd half of our third session.   The pros are seeing great improvements in our juniors this year.  We will be hosting a few tournaments once again throughout the course of  2022.  Our first tournament will be a Level 5 18u singles and doubles tournament this weekend January 7th-9th.

JTT is continuing strong into the 2022 portion of the league.  A reminder to those who are playing and coaches to make sure you can find a sub well in advance so that the matchups are correct, and everyone has a great experience.  If you are playing and something comes up in your schedule which conflicts, please remember to reach out to your coach/captain as soon as possible.

BTC hosted a JTT Challenge match Sat, Dec 11 against Empire Tennis Academy of Rochester. Was a great match with BTC winning a nail biter 5-4 under the tutelage of coach Logan Howard! “Could not have run better” was the prevailing quote and we look forward to continuing this friendly rivalry!
