Happening Colombo

2021 Week 20

20 May

Welcome to this week's update on Colombo's meal deals, happy hours and events.

So we're approaching the end of a rather quiet week and, as you doubtless know, there will be a couple of three-day curfews from this Saturday.

We hope that the "delivery" page has helped you to enjoy some new delivery ideas. We're adding to it almost daily so you'll find some new suggestions if you check again.

As we're not able to go to live events, we've been looking for some online events and have added some upcoming livestreams and webinars to the Home page diary.

We'll update the pages regularly with any events and new delivery places that we hear of.

Stay Safe, Stay Well.

What's New this week?

Breakfast, Lunch and Brunch

There's a few more places offering breakfasts, some of them all day. And we love it. Breakfasts shouldn't be a morning-only meal!  Lago, the new Italian bistro at Colombo City Centre, now offers an all day breakfast, which can be ordered for delivery. So you only have to get out of bed to answer the door!

If you're up for a pizza lunch, Smoke Bricks are offering two large pizzas for Rs2499, with free local delivery, or two medium for Rs1800.

Or if you're feeding several people, Harpo's have a 22 inch pizza, probably the largest in Sri Lanka, which will feed 6-8 people, though I've seen two teenagers get through one with not much help!

Do you get tired of hearing someone complain that their burger is never quite right? Here's the solution: Brew 1867 by Dilmah offer a DIY burger kit. It comes cooked, with lots of ingredients for you to make the burger how you like it. So if it's still not right, you know who to blame!

Oh and for dessert they also have a cup cake decorating kit, so you can get the kids to decorate their own cupcakes!

High Tea and Dinner:

If you're looking for a family treat, Hilton Colombo Residence offer "sharing"  meals for 4 people including Chinese, Japanese and Mexican.

The Galadari have also launched a delivery menu  featuring some classic Sri Lankan dishes and some  international  favourites.

For a more home cooked experience, Simply Delicious by Salo have a range of home cooked meals. They are offering a limited menu at the moment but are still delivering. We had ribs from them recently and they were very good!

For a more budget meal, Momo have launched a selection of three set menus starting from R550 for chilli chicken, fried rice, vegetable chop suey and omelette.

And Butler's Pub have just today launched their own budget menu, featuring a selection of pub grub and bites dishes.

For more delivery ideas, check out our new Delivery page. We're not listing just any places offering delivery; we're  listing ones that are perhaps less well known, smaller places or ones that offer something a bit different.

Happy Hours & Ladies' Night

No happy hours or ladies night in the week ahead sadly.

We'll update on what deals are available next week, once there is some certainty.

Live Music & DJs

There's no live gigs or DJ evenings happening for the next week at least.

However we've browsed a few sites and come up with some online livestream shows and other events that you might like. These include livestream  concerts by the likes of Coldplay or Twenty One Pilots, and  sing-along sessions with the  worldwide Sofa Singers or a Reggae Choir.

For more, check our home page diary. It is updated and added to regularly.

Let's hope that live music can return soon. We enjoy it and the hard working musicians  and DJs need the income!

Other Events

With all physical events cancelled for the moment, we've tried to find some online events that might be of interest.

These have so far been international but it's great see some local events starting to happen too. Thank you Chokolaate, who are hosting online open Mic on 30th May. We hope this is just the first of many events - maybe soon we'll see an online quiz or comedy show?

And a reminder about the Hay Festival which will be online from 26May to 6June. There's lots happening every day with people joining from around the world.

Looking Ahead

I'm sure we'll all looking forward to more events, nights out and meals together. While much of that might not be possible in the week or two ahead, this won't last long and soon we will be able to socialise again. In the meantime, we will keep bringing you ideas for meals to be delivered, and online events that might be of interest.

And of course if you know of something interesting, please send it to us so that we can share with others like you who might enjoy it.

Keep checking www.HappeningColombo.com for what's new, it is updated daily.  And please mention Happening Colombo when you make an order.

Whatever you do, stay safe. And visit HappeningColombo regularly to find out what is happening. It's updated every day!
