Scylla and Charybdis

Here be dragons. And doves.

Are you baffled by what is going on in the West? Are you caught between a rock and hard place when you talk to your friends and family about current events? The Scylla and Charybdis of social media are rough waters to navigate (and trust us, we’ve crashed many times), but the Dragon Common Room (DCR) has an Ark to help you sail through these dangerous seas!

As most of us have been forced to choose between the Left or Right side of politics (or cower with an amoral Centrist approach), it seems like there’s no room to express any dissent, anywhere. Is there a safe harbour for people who want Truth, Beauty and Goodness? Or does the media whirlpool truly rule the narrative unchallenged?

DCR have some stories for you this week, as we continue our quest to uncover the roots of Western Civilization and find safe passage on the Internet! Among this week’s treats, we have included a coloring page (with seals and bears), a video on learning how to blow your nose (in Minecraft), and a hard-hitting history lesson for our brethren in France.

Take a few moments to reset your course, and hitch a ride through the Internet with the doves, bears, and Drakes.

Hic dracones—et columbae.

Manners...in Minecraft

Are you distressed by the fury of controversies raging on the Internet? Never fear! RFB and Kilts are here to help. In this episode, the Mosaic Ark sails into the stormy waters of social media to discover why everyone is behaving badly and what we can do about it. We talk about why people have such a hard time navigating between platforms without turning into booger trolls, and we suggest the adoption of Royal Community Guidelines for behaving well. Learn to scan...in Minecraft! Be a knight, not a barbarian!

Hint: There may have been a point to chivalry.

Seals in Distress

“I knew it!” Spencer yelled. “It’s those seal fiends!

They’re coming back for more. I say, we fight ‘em!”

But Ivan spied dark movement submarine

and, cutting through the waves, a dorsal fin.

The seals swam frantically in serpentine,

evading what they feared, yet could not ken.

“I see a boat!” Marina sharply shrieked.

The dorsal circled round; their odds were bleak.

—Aurora Bearialis, Act V: The Orca, stanza 3

Help the bears navigate their way out of the sealstrom! Can you find the black fin amidst the waves? Transform the seals from mean girls into bear friends by coloring them with Light!

Bold Christian Writing

Normans in Paris

DCR poet and co-host of “The Mosaic Ark” Kilts Khalfan picks up the sword of Saint Maurice and challenges the narrative of the French riots, calling the attention of Europeans to their own African heritage and the dynamics of the New Normans raging against the machine. Yes, you read that right.

Sit down to enjoy a sandwich, and take a look at the world of the "Afro Monte Cristo" as Alexander Dumas saw it. You may have second thoughts about celebrating Bastille Day!
