Greetings Room 112 Families! Happy Monday, May 1st. Such gloomy weather to kick start May, but we have a lot of exciting things happening in the next 28 school days left until summer break!! This past week we continued our adventures exploring seeds, plants, gardens, and insects. Special thanks to our parent chaperones for joining us on Thursday for our walking field trip to the Oak Park Conservatory. We had a beautiful day and I received several compliments from the docents about how great our class was during the trip!! Below is a closer look at Week 33 and some important announcements. Have a wonderful rest of your week! Ms. Clark |

Student Treasures If you have not ordered a copy of our class published book for your child you can use the link below. Books will arrive within 20 business days of publishing date! The kids have been working extremely hard in preparation for their first published book. Your child took part in the brainstorming process - will the book be fiction or nonfiction? (nonfiction) What will the topic be? (If I could be anything I would be ...) They brainstormed their ideas, wrote several drafts, drew an illustration, and created an author's page. I am so proud of their hard work and cannot wait to see the final product!! | | |

Great Reads From the Last Few Weeks |
Tops & Bottoms During week 33 one of our close read alouds was "Tops & Bottoms" retold by Janet Stevens. Before, during, and after reading we made predictions using clues & illustrations, we identify characters & their traits, and discussed our favorite parts of the book. We also paid special close attention to vegetables that grow above the ground and root vegetables that grow below the ground. |
What's Inside a Flower? Today we read this detailed and beautifully illustrated book about flowers. The kids were able to label the different flower parts, discuss how seeds travel/ move, and design their own garden by labeling what they would plant in it. |
