NGPC BLYTHE, CA

NOV 13-14

NGPC Round 9 Nov 13-14 Blythe, CA. It was not the strongest weekend for team Purvines as all of our riders just didn't have the best results. The results do not reflect their effort and positives from the race, but all in all they are healthy and ready for another weekend of battle in Primm for WORCS this weekend.

Nick Burson also decided to dust off the boots and go to a MRAN race in Laughlin and he finished 2nd place for the day. Impressive ride for a full time dad and employee these days. Great to see him back out there where he belongs!

JUSTIN SEEDS

2ND

VET PRO

The battle continued and Justin has been trying to get the monkey off his back and get a win back from robby. He had the lead for a while, but then crashed and lost to much time.  Another solid 2nd place in the books.

In his words: "Started off the race with a solid start and was able to get out front after a couple corners and try to pull away. But unfortunately the same story happened again. Robby was able to push hard and pass me and pull away. It sucks getting second every time. But our pace has definitely escalated and it shows in our lap times.  Maybe i should work out more and race pro again lol."

NICK BURSON

2ND

 PRO (MRAN)

Nick decided last minute to race a local MRAN after Ron Purvine put up more money toward the pro purse. After months off from racing he was able to come back and get it done with a 2nd place. Impressive ride and happy to seem him enjoying himself out there once again.

In his words: "This weekend I saw that Ron Purvines put up a decent size pro purse money at the District 36 MRAN desert race in Laughlin Nevada.  I decided it was time to dust off the racing boots and get back on the line.  I thought we would have cooler temperatures but that didn't happen either.  My wife and I loaded up the family and took our trailer out for a weekend of racing and making memories with our twin boys.       When the banner dropped my lack of racing lately took over and I botched the start and was left sitting on the line in the dust. With only one person behind me and a big line of Open pro racers I had my work cut out for me. I just tried to stay out of the dust and pick people off as quickly as possible.  I made some really good choices in the beginning and once we settled down into the single track I think I was around 6th place.  I started picking people off one at a time just trying to ride fast and learn the course. The thing about laughlin is how rough it is and there is cactus everywhere.  I ended up working my way up to 2nd overall by the end of the first lap with a little bit of cactus in my hand and Matt Gosnell breathing down my neck.  It felt like 2008 battling with Matt again. When I came in for my first pit my wife let me know I was 2nd overall and the leader wasn't far ahead. I got a quick splash of gas from my dad and I was back out for another lap. That gave me the extra incentive to push hard and try to catch the leader.  I ended up catching up to his dust and could see him a few hills away but I could never bridge the gap any closer. At this point almost done with lap 2 I started to fatigue a little bit and lose the ability to really push hard.  I kept digging but ended up coming up short and ended the day 2nd overall. I was pleased with my performance as it had been a few months since my last desert race and seat time with twin boys is minimal these days.  I always have fun being back at the races and I'm looking forward to racing more here soon, Thank you to my wife for being an amazing pit wife and taking care of our babies while I was out on the course!! Thanks to Ron Purvines and Collin Woolsey for keeping a bike underneath me and helping me get to the races!!!"

MASON OTTERSBERG

5TH

250 PRO

Mason had another great start running around 4th and quickly got himself into the lead in the pro section taking a line no one else would take on the first lap. He pushed hard in the beginning, but eventually started losing positions as he over rode this track and burnt out in the first half. He recovered after pitting, but wasn't enough to catch back up to a podium spot.

In his words: "There was a lot of positives to come home with. A lot of outside circumstances are finally taking it's toll on how I can train at home and just didn't have the same edge I have had all season. My trainer and I are going to do our best to work with what's going on and hopefully get some of that back for the last two races."

TYLER LYNN

7TH

PRO

Tyler had another consistent ride going until a pro 250 rider crashed in the pro section and caused Tyler to wedge is bike tight in the canyon putting him back significantly. He did his best to finish as far up as possible.

In his words: "Pro race started off really good. I found a good pace and was charging hard till a mistake on lap 3 put me back a little bit. got back up and charged hard till the second to last lap where I made a small mistake in the pro section that got my bike stuck on a downhill. had to let 6-7 racer run over my bike till I could even get to it. lost a bunch of time but was able to get up and finish on a pretty beat up bike. Ended up 7th on the day. We’ll be back next weekend."

THOMAS DUNN

7TH

   250 PRO

Thomas made some good improvements this weekend and is learning what is expecting from this demanding pro 250 class.

In his words: "The start was completely opposite of last weekend. Second to last going into the first turn. Made some really good passes on the first lap to get into seventh. The next three guys were pretty far ahead, but I put my head down and was able to catch them around lap 4 and the crashed in the pro section, lost some time and then started over riding the track and using to much energy.  A lot of positives from this weekend, looking forward to next weekend."

AVA SILVESTRI

DNF

WOMENS PRO

Ava was killing it in the first half of the race until she crashed and took the bars to her chest knocking the wind out of her and really messing her up. She is healthy, but did not finish the race. She will be ready for this weekend.

In her words: "Another tough weekend for me out at Blythe. Rode solid on Saturday and felt comfortable on the track. Unfortunately Sunday I collided with a rider off the start and was dead last but quickly worked my way back to 3rd. But again another unfortunate situation and the ground won the battle this weekend and I crashed with 3 laps to go and unfortunately had to pull off and wasn’t able to finish. Tough defeat for me mentally but we’ll be ready to go for Primm next week!"

CAITLYN KURTZ

2ND

4 STROKE OPEN A

Caitlyn's riding style certainly helped her at this round. She knows how to flow and carry momentum and this track was overly demanding for that. She had a great weekend of racing.

In her words: "Another amazing weekend of racing at Blythe for NGPC! Saturdays race went great. I had an awesome start on and felt smooth the whole race and ended  finishing in fourth for the Women’s A Class. I was super intimidated by the Sunday race. I didn’t have a great start, but because of that, I was able to avoid the pile up in the first corner. The rest of the race was rough, but I had some awesome battles and some great laughs. I was able to stay first in class until the last lap where I got passed and quickly fell behind and ended up taking second in the Women’s Four-Stroke Open A class."
