As I sit here in my gazebo listening to the birds chirping, I am overcome with gratitude. Gratitude for Tess. Gratitude for yoga. Gratitude for you, my yogi friends. Iāve been missing you all as Iāve been on vacation on and off for the last couple of weeks. Itās time to dig back in deep to the power of yoga, personal connection, and self-exploration.
Iām Lynn Visserā¦mom, wife, friend, nurse, author, mentor, nature lover, and curious soul. My husband, Scott, is a Batallion Chief for the City of Sacramento Fire Department and we have three boys, Chase (20), Colton (17), and Brody (17)ā¦.yes, twins. We have lived in Loomis for the past 25 years and will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on July 27th.
Iām originally from a small town in the Berkeley Hills called Kensington but made my migration to the Sacramento area after receiving an undergrad degree in exercise physiology from the University of California, Davis. While working as a river raft guide and on an ambulance during college, I fell in love with emergency medicine. Upon graduating, I went on to complete a nursing degree and spent the next 18 years working in emergency nursing with some stents in the intensive care unit, post anesthesia recovery, and as an organ transplant coordinator. I loved each area for its own unique character, but truly emergency nursing is my passion. I am energized by the mystery behind each patient presentation, the organized chaos, the fast paceā¦Iām an adrenaline junkie at heart. Fast forward to 2012 when I suffered a career ending (as I knew it) injury. Iā¦.wasā¦.heartbroken.
But as we all know, sometimes the best gifts come from our biggest struggles. For me, this has been finding new passionsā¦and that has been both yoga and sharing my nursing knowledge through writing and editing clinical nursing content. To date I have 3 titles (5 books) with Springer Publishing, a medical and nursing book company; these books focus on helping the bedside nurse provide better, safer care. My most recent co-authored title, Rapid Access Guide for Pediatric Emergencies: Providing Expert Nursing Care just released in June. While my earlier publications catered to the emergency nurse, this latest book is applicable for anyone in the healthcare arena who may find themselves caring for a pediatric patient (camp nurses, school nurses, student nurses, emergency nurses etc.). If you know a nurse, I would be grateful if you would share the link.
Throughout my healing journey I have tried both Western and Eastern medicine to rid my body of chronic pain. At times Iād take two steps forward only to be met with three steps backā¦.until I met Tess. The pandemic year has proven to be my greatest year of forward progress. Iām now back on my bicycle and enjoying more active times with my husband and kids. I feel blessed. I love the physical and spiritual balance of yoga, the community that has formed in the virtual yoga platform, and the physical strength that I have gained. Hindsight is 20/20. I wish I found yoga sooner, but there is no time like the present. I look forward to many more years of strengthening, balancing, and building yogi friendships. I love the power of connection and am always up for uniting on a more personal level with each of you. I can be reached at visserl@sbcglobal.net.
