Welcome to the 50th Newsletter!

Welcome to the 50th newsletter! I can't believe that we have reached this milestone. You might recognize the picture above from the first newsletter that went out on October 2nd, 2020. Ever since then, a newsletter has found its way into your inbox every other week. There have been many moments of growth and change since the start of the newsletter which is why it is time for a new look and feel! After almost 2 years, I am bringing this pride picture back because it once symbolized new beginnings and I am yet again shaking things up as I have outgrown the old style of the newsletter. I can't wait for you to see what I have in store and introduce you to what I am working on.

What to Expect?

I know you are wondering what is new, what has changed, and what is gone. So here is what you should expect in the newsletter going forward. Let's take a quick look at each section:

The Weekly Poll 🎈is one of the biggest staples of the newsletter so there is no need to worry because that isn't going anywhere! I will be trying out some new styles and formats with it in the future get excited to see all the funky growing pains. Stay tuned for new and exciting polls to come!

The "In the Headline" section will look a lil' different going forward. After some reflection, people weren't always keen on submitting their "good news" every week so I have taken into account this fact and decided the "headlines" can and will be comprised of good news in the world and good news in our lives (only if people chose to submit news 🤷‍♂️). The headlines will still be here but, I think we could all benefit from seeing good news outside of our lives and in the world around us!

Alex's Book Corner has also gotten a makeover! With life getting busier and so many activities to do, my book consumption rate has significantly decreased. I mean I want to go to concerts, see shows (TV and Broadway), listen to music, and read. So Alex's Book Corner is officially called "Alex's Book, Show, and Music Corner." I only have so much time in a week so this is now the corner for all of it! I have also officially created "Alex's List!" This is the list of recommendations of shows, artists, books, and more that people told me to consume (now whenever I say "I'll put it on my list," it actually is on a list and it isn't a lie!). You can recommend something to me and once I get to it, I will feature what you recommended to me and some of my thoughts!

The "Other News" section is going to look different as well! This has been a place where I usually highlight some thoughts on what is going on in the world and a random space for whatever else I want to talk about. What is going to be different with this section is that it WILL NOT be in every newsletter. Sometimes, there is no "other news" and therefore no need for this. There is no need to find and discuss other things to talk about if I don't have anything to say. Sometimes, saying less is saying more. But, what you can expect as a new staple in our new section "Friendly Reminders and Affirmations!"

Friendly Reminders and Affirmations is a derivative of "Other News" and will be featured in every newsletter! At the end of the newsletter, you can find some daily reminders and affirmations that I am reminding myself of and I hope they might be helpful for you too. Sometimes it is important to take a moment and be reminded of certain things which is why I decided to add this to the newsletter. Also, it wouldn't be an "Alex Newsletter" if people couldn't submit their friendly reminders and affirmations to share with our community too!

"What's Alex Working On?" Introducing this new section where I have the place to display all the projects, activities, shows, and more that I am working on. Sometimes, the project I am working on is months to years long while there might also be a moment I decide to write a blog post again. A project can be short-lived but, sometimes it takes days and days of planning. Stay up-to-date on all of my projects here!

The Weekly Poll Results! 🎈

Last week, everyone had to vote on what their spirit spice is. Personally, mine is basil (if you know you know). But the real question is, what is the most popular spirit spice among the crowd? It appears that BASIL is the most popular spirit spice too. A great shout out is "Everything but the Bagel!"

In The Headlines!

Are you tired of all the constant headlines popping up on your phones? Does the news sometimes ruin the day? Here is a place where you can find uplifting, fun, and good news in the world around us and some people in our own community. Keep your open for those good headlines for a smile!

  • The Marine Debris Project has removed nearly 50 tons of waste from the marine ecosystem in Hawaii! To read more about this click here.

  • We have all heard of Lyme Disease. There is good news - a lyme disease vaccine is in stage 3 of development (yay vaccines)! Read more here.

  • Pottery Barn created their first accessible furniture line that is catered to absolutely everyone. Check out some of their products on their website!

The news here might be small but, it was good news! Want to be featured "In the Headlines" or have an article that you want to feature? Share your good news here to have it featured in the next newsletter!

Friendly Reminders and Affirmations

  • Rest isn't a reward. Rest is important for health. It gives the brain a break, time to recharge, and gives it strength. To fully show up to events, people, and things we fight for we need to factor in some time for rest, as hard as that is.

  • Trying something new can be scary but, it can alter your life and it might even be a hidden part of your identity.

  • Take a deep breath and remember that this moment only lasts for a moment.

  • The Other People (movie) - I watched this movie on Netflix and I watched it because I thought it was a comedy and Molly Shannon is in it... it wasn't as funny as I thought. It was well done and did make me cry. (4 ⭐️)
