Summer is here – finally!! It’s incredible to watch our neighbourhoods and communities coming alive again. Whether it’s seeing families gathered outside for a driveway visit, or spotting all the creative new patio installations. Summer 2021 may still look a little different, but it’s being fueled by the desire to connect, to catch up, and be together once again.
As the warm weather continues, I’m looking forward to getting back to hiking the Bruce Trail. My cousin and I have a perfect arrangement: she deals with the maps and plans the route, and I show up with the lunch and snacks. We play to our strengths, get some great exercise, and spend hours chatting and enjoying each other’s company, while exploring some beautiful parts of Ontario. My dream was to hike all 900+ km by the time I turned 50. The realities of life got in the way, but I’m thrilled to say that we’ve completed more than half of it ... and I am absolutely loving the experience - even if I’ve had to adjust my goals a bit.
I think we’ve all learned a thing or two about adapting and adjusting this year. We’ve gotten used to virtual work, and learned new systems and skills. We’ve also all had a covid birthday (or two), marked a personal or professional anniversary, and celebrated holidays in a very different way. We’ve had to put a pandemic twist on most things, and found innovative ways to make old traditions work.
What creative solutions have you come up with? Is there something you discovered that blew you away, or an awesome idea you’re really proud of? If so, I’d love to hear about it. I’m constantly amazed by peoples’ resilience and creativity.
As numbers get better, and the light at the end of the tunnel shines a little brighter, no doubt we’re all looking forward to the day when we can celebrate like it’s 2019 again. In the meantime, let’s take the time to celebrate the little things, and make the most of today.
My hope is for you to find a little more joy today!
