Find out what's happening online & in-person!

May 5, 2019

Hello friend,

It's been rainy and grey all day today, so I've spent my time cuddling with kitties, playing with my kids, and baking cookies and a cake for my death cafe at Rhizome tomorrow, May 6th.

Yesterday, it was warm and sunny when I headed down to Dupont Circle to experience my first TBD Immersive theater production. Under(world): The Lost & The Found is a guided journey and interactive art installation that takes participants from death to life or life to death. It's creative, innovative, and fun; it's deep and meaningful and thought-provoking; and it's as emotional as you want (or don't want) it to be. This hour long production takes place in the Dupont Underground, and it runs through May 19th. Don't miss your chance to buy tickets. I love all kinds of theater, and DC has some of the best in the entire country...TBD is worth checking out!

On April 24th, I visited the National Museum of Women in the Arts to hear Amy Padnani, a New York Times obit writer and creator of the paper's Overlooked section, speak about her groundbreaking work to include more women and people of color in the obituary section (#intersectionality). We'll talk about Overlooked at my obit workshop on May 29th.

On April 23rd, the knitting group met to discuss ways in which we remember the dead and connect with our dead loved ones. We came up with a page-and-a-half of ideas! People were knitting, sewing, coloring, and doing origami while we talked. On April 25th, I hosted a death cafe at the Petworth Library. It was wonderful to be back in that space and spend time with old and new friends.
