Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the 8th edition of CoFBAT Newsletter. COFBAT is close to its “retirement age” as it is currently in its 50th month, with more busy months ahead full of exciting developments. As Julio Cesar said, “No one is so brave that they are not disturbed by something unexpected”, CoFBAT has been extended till month 54 entering into the final production phase of cells.
Four years ago, CoFBAT started with a vision towards a novel cell concept based on gel polymer electrolyte and cobalt-free materials, 28 years after the first li-ion battery entered into market. CoFBAT has made notable achievements in materials technology and gel electrolytes. Additionally, the first 21700 cells were produced and showcased during the last general assembly.
During the last few months, we were involved in the exciting validation phase of the novel cathode, anode and gel polymer electrolyte assembly into the novel cell concept to bring the solution into industrial manufacturability. These activities will be validated by partners like Varta Storage, VDL and Bouygues. Objectives of the recycling concept have been validated by Mimitech. Last but not least, CoFBAT has not only been technically active but also the focus on dissemination has been done: e.g. the attendance at Energy Storage Conference 2023, Battery Innovation Days 2023 and the 4th Battery forum.
During the next months, the CoFBAT cell will be validated and the exploitation of results addressed. A Third webinar will be held addressing challenges in the market on which we will inform you soon.
