Our universe is HUGE! All the planets, stars, and galaxies are part of our universe. And yet, this big universe was once much smaller in size, and had a beginning. This beginning of the universe is what we call the Big Bang!
The milky way dwarfs the huge mountains of the Pakistani north (Skardu city). Roshaan Nadeem spent 15 minutes taking this picture of our home galaxy. Rendered shades of yellow, dense stellar populations shine through the cosmic dust and gas. The brightest part here is towards the center of the galaxy, where Sag A*, its supermassive black hole lives. Summer is the best time to see the milky way galaxy from a dark site - and you don't even need a telescope or binoculars to see it!
