Mediumize Update

5/17/20

Since our last newsletter on April 26th, Mediumize has further evolved to meet the needs of our users. Over the course of the past three weeks, Mediumize has increased the number of cities where we can assist high-risk individuals from 46 to 151 cities. We were able to accomplish this undertaking not only from personal growth, but also by establishing partnerships to expand our volunteer network.

The main barrier we had to consider when we decided to establish partnerships was how we would stay consistent for users and volunteers that were already accustomed to our platform. Expanding our volunteer network on both ends seemed like a no-brainer — if someone from Missouri sought help on Mediumize, despite us having no volunteers there, we wanted them to recognize that one of our partners could assist in their area. Eventually, we came up with the idea of creating a "Zip-Code Tool." If a regular Mediumize user comes onto our website, they can go directly to the essential errands form; however, a new user can simply enter their zip-code on our "Where we Help" page, and they will instantly be directed to the appropriate service.

Our focus over the course of the last few weeks has been on expanding our volunteer network, however, in the coming weeks, it will be more geared towards reaching out to high-risk individuals. Whether it is directly, through hospitals, or senior living homes, we are going to continue to help more and more people.

Here are some other miscellaneous things we accomplished:

  • Our virtual mask drive, in partnership with the International Academy's buildOn chapter, has continued making homemade masks for grocery store workers and organizations.
    • If you need masks, contact us
    • If you would like to support our efforts, consider donating
  • We officially registered as an LLC despite taking no-profits. This decision was for the best interest of our team and volunteers, especially because of the long process and expensive fees that come with being a 501(c). This is still a possibility that Mediumize will continue to explore, however, in the present it does not make as much sense for our mission.
  • We started writing volunteer spotlights, with eventual plans of highlighting users. If you are interested in sharing your story, contact us and we will make it happen!
  • We published an article that highlighted 6 potential COVID-19 treatments
    • Remdesivir
    • Hydroxychloroquine + zPak
    • Baricitinib
    • Plasma Treatment
    • mRNA-1273 Vaccine
    • Quantum Computing (Future Outlook)
  • Lastly, we made a 1-minute video that shows the process between a user requesting help and essentials actually being delivered to their front doorstep:
