Our second Open House  will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 12:00 to 4:00pm! Everyone is welcome to visit the civic center to meet our Activity Leaders and representatives from our Board of Directors. This event is your chance to find out what the SJCCA has to offer and have an afternoon of fun too!

New members, members and everyone curious about the activities and events we host are urged to drop in and mingle.

  • Register at the door and receive a free raffle ticket for prizes - yes, FREE! Just be present to win. Additional tickets will be available for purchase to increase your odds of winning.
  • Wine and cheese refreshments - donations gratefully accepted
  • Fresh baked cookies are intended to be provided by Carlos Gomez, one of our board members. Carlos may need a bit of help (he is banker not a baker☺) so feel free to be his cookie coach!
  • Pickin' in the City - an outdoor gathering of anyone who wants to bring an instrument to join the jam session or just appreciate the music!
  • Uproot Hootenanny will perform at 6:00pm - this concert event is fun for everyone, but if you didn't get tickets, it's SOLD OUT!

Rummage Sale, Big Breakfast, Plant Sale and more!

 

We need your help to make our first Rummage Sale and Big Breakfast a success.  Your donations of household items, small appliances, tools, furniture, jewelry, collectibles,  plants, flowers, are most welcome!

Proceeds from the Rummage Sale and Big Breakfast support the daily operations and activities offered at the Civic Center.  We are a non profit organization - we rely on fundraisers and our volunteers to keep our doors open!

We wish everyone a healthy and Happy New Year!  We have many events and some new activities coming up in 2019..............

 

January 2019

  • Jan 6th - Open House / Pickin' in the City / Uproot Hootenanny Concert 12:00 - 4:00   Come one and all to check out the SJCCA!  Register at the door and get a free raffle ticket!  All activity leaders are urged to attend this event.  This is our opportunity to invite the community to see what we have to offer!  Our website for detailed info.
  • Jan 19th WINTERFEST - Rummage Sale, Big Breakfast, Craft Vendors            This event is an important fundraiser for the Civic Center.  Your donations for the Rummage Sale help us to keep our doors open and provide a community space for all "Pine Islanders".  Art and Craft vendors may rent table space - contact Ellie at 973-650-9168.  Our Big Breakfast will be offered from 8AM until 10AM. This all-you-can-eat breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes with strawberry and whipped cream topping. Coffee and tea is also served – all for $7.00 per person. Come support the Civic Association with this great event! A volunteer signup sheet for this event is available at the Civic Center. These events are volunteer supported!

 

February 2019

  • Feb 6th - **NEW** Beginner Bridge Lessons!  6 weekly classes from 10:00 - 11:30 am on Wednesdays.  $2 for members / $4 for non-members
  • Feb 13th - Annual Valentine Card and Game Party  Wednesday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm  The day will start with a Continental breakfast featuring Home baked treats provided by the Thursday Mah Jongg group. Luncheon will be those delicious sandwiches from Pine Island Pizza. And not to be out done by the MJ group, home made dessert from the Bridge Ladies. All this for only $15. Tickets will be available at the January 6th open house and Wednesday mornings during Island Crafters. Stop in on Wednesday and see what your missing if you aren't attending crafts.  

 

March 2019

  • Mar 14th - ***NEW*** Saint James Civic Association  is hosting it’s inaugural Mah Jongg Tournament!  Breakfast, lunch and a lot of fun playing 3 sessions in the morning and 3 sessions in the afternoon. GOLDEN BRUSHERS WELCOME 2019 AT SJCCA!

Don't be shy! Come explore your artistic muse with SJCCA's painting group on Tuesday mornings at 10 A.M. in th colorful building on 4th and Lemon in St. James City.

 

Order of the Golden Brush, founded over 45 years ago by Gladys Stroud, continues to provide a supportive atmosphere for individuals wishing to play with paints and pencils.

 

Golden Brush is happy to sponsor 3 workshops in January on Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 4 P.M.  Check it out....

 

January 15 ...Guest artist, Nancy Lenz Barr, leads participants in decorating a magnetic board using alcohol ink. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring extra embellishments such as sparkles, pictures, ribbons, shells, beads, buttons and bows! Cost is $45.

January 22... Glass artist, Janet Sams leads a workshop using smashed glass. Create your masterpiece from broken repurposed glass on a 9 by 12 canvas. Learn to cut glass and to how to design your individual work. You view Janet's work on her website.  All materials provided, but if you have colorful broken vases, etc. consider bringing them with your apron.    Cost is $55

January 29... Pine Island's own, Mel Meo, returns for an afternoon using acrylics. Learn Mel's techniques with "oops" paints and leave with your painting of a Pine Island Landscape. No previous experience necessary. All materials provided. Bring your apron. Cost is $45

Euchre - Join us for a stress-free and fun-filled evening of Euchre every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30. Don't know how to play? We'll gladly teach you. For more information, contact Darlene Bender at 260-437-4392 or Jan Robertson at 239-282-1053.

 

Exercise class continues on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.  New classmates wanted!!!  Men and Women of all ages welcome!!!  Stretching, strength training, regain balance and much more!!  No registration needed...Just show up!  $5.00 per class.

 

 

All-levels yoga classes with Jaime Boswell begin again Thursday 1/3 at 10:30am. Jaime’s classes focus on building a sense of strength and stability through slow mindful movement and steady holding of postures. This class is accessible for beginners. MAH JONGG Mah Jongg is in full force in January; there are often 4 or more tables.

Come join the fun every Thursday at 1:00 This group also is co-sponsor of the annual "Card Party" scheduled for February 13 this year. This party is open to all gamers, whether its bridge, mah jongg, dominoes, hand and foot, dirty marbles, etc. Your group should get their tickets early. In addition to play, enjoy a continental breakfast, lunch, silent auction and bucket raffle.

Remember to bring your membership card with you to all activities and events.  If you paid your membership dues but did not receive your membership card, please check the "Membership Applications" bin next to the ladies room.  Unclaimed membership cards for 2018 and 2019 are in the bin - ask any board member or activity leader for help!

**We no longer have the resources to mail out Newsletters through the post office.  However, if you are a current member and provide us with your email address, we will add you to our list!  If you would like to print out a Newsletter (current or older), please go to our website at the link below and select the Newsletter tab.  The email version of our Newsletter is for viewing/reading.

 

**SJCCA Contact Information:  We have removed all personal phone numbers and email addresses for our board of directors, activity leaders, and event contacts from the public pages of our website.  A list of contact information is located on a new page that is private and can only be viewed by registered members of the SJCCA.   If you have not yet registered as a member on our website, click on the "Help" button below the "Members Only" tab for instructions.  We will continue to post contact information on the bulletin board at the Civic Center if you do not wish to register as a member on the website.  Inactive members and the public can complete the "Contact Us" section on our website and their inquiry will be forwarded to the appropriate contact person.

 

**A Members Only page was created to provide our members with information such as financial reports and minutes to board/association meetings.  To access the Members Only page you must first "Sign Up" to be approved as a valid Member of the SJCCA.
