From Farms Like Ours

Plant '24

Our tractors and planter are headed to the fields! The start of planting depends heavily on the weather. We need perfect (or near perfect) conditions to start planting corn and soybeans. The soil needs to be dry and warm. If we plant when the soil is not warm enough, the seeds won't germinate right away and might not emerge well. If we plant when the soil is too wet, the seeds might not emerge at all and tire ruts might be left in the fields.

Fun fact: The ideal soil temperature for corn is at least 50° F and for soybeans is 55°-60° F.

You Ask. We Answer!

What is the dressed weight?

The dressed weight of an animal (also known as the 'carcass weight' or 'hanging weight') refers to the weight of the animal after being harvested. For beef, the weight includes all of the carcass's bones, meat, and fat. For pigs, the weight includes of the of the carcass's bones, meat, fat, and skin.
