Transform 1012 N. Main Street is transforming the former Ku Klux Klan Auditorium in Fort Worth, TX into The Fred Rouse Center for Arts and Community Healing, named after a Black butcher who was lynched by a white mob in 1921. |

Board Member of the Month: Ayesha Ganguly |

Ayesha Ganguly, Executive Director of Window To Your World (WTYW) describes how she got involved with Transform 1012 N. Main Street, “In my early conversations with DNAWorks it became evident to me that the seed of this idea... Transform 1012... must be planted and I must be part of that movement. There was no other way! We have the freedom and capacity to create a space where all people will learn, reflect and understand history, have dialogue, make art, and exchange ideas. That it will be a living breathing space!” |
|
|
WTYW originated in India where there was a need to create a platform for youth based civic engagement and a voice in policy making. It continued as non profit consultancy services in the US. At WTYW, Ganguly supports non profit organizations with program design and management, community outreach initiatives, youth mentorship projects, group facilitation, and research. “The goal is to create empathetic and just communities through dialogue and access to opportunity.” The mission for WTYW is in complete alignment with the Transform 1012 mission. She anticipates The Fred Rouse Center for Arts and Community Healing as a blend of local and international programming so people can be exposed to life stories and learn from those stories of strength, conflict, and love. “Relationship building is key to thriving, resilient societies. It is not enough to observe diversity data and growth data when we don't see those different faces, hear those different voices in all our public spaces. We hope that this center will offer numerous, rich possibilities for collaboration and cross generational exchange.” |

On November 9th we held a virtual event called Redesigning the Design Competition conversation with 130 participants. Our goals in initiating this forum were to 1) crowdsource community knowledge about more equitable processes in selecting a design team and 2) make possible more equitable decision-making in order to engage more people in the work of the built environment – not only for our project, but for the field at large. We will be back in touch in late February to share the documentation of this conversation as well as the process we have crafted for Transform 1012 N. Main Street. Watch the video of the event HERE.
