Not Long Now Until the Prize Giving Dinner

As the summer days fade away the excitement of our 43rd race seems a long time ago now, but we're looking forward to celebrating the achievements of all the teams at our prize giving dinner and dance.

It's a tradition of the race to have a formal prize giving to distribute the many prizes the race supports, along with a very informal exchange of tall race tales over a drink or two!

This year the prize giving will once again be at the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon, and we hope to see all the teams there on October 30th, whether they have trophies to collect or not.

There were at least 11 teams who won trophies this year (some are still to be announced following skipper and committee votes) and you can see the list of winners here.

Any teams who have not booked their places and accommodation yet should contact the secretary as soon as possible.

MCS Lead The Charity Fundraisers

Over the years the teams in the race have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity, and there is a trophy for the best fundraisers too - The Karrimor Trophy.

The totals raised have to be declared after October 1st and we know several teams have raised many thousands, but the front runners must be the Marine Conservation Society team.  They've exceeded their £15,000 target and their current total raised is an impressive £16,275!

After the prize giving we'll update you on all the fundraising totals this year.

Changes For 2022

Planning for the next race goes on year round and the race committee have already decided on a couple of changes to the distribution of trophies next year.

Although the Challenge category is non-competitive any challenge teams will now be eligible for the Las Vegas Cup for company teams and it will be given retrospectively this year to the Fire Service team, Sail Raisers and Trail Blazers.

It's also been decided that the trophies for each leg of the race will in future, just be given based on sailing time. Previously, each leg was a combination of sailing/running, but the runners have a separate trophy for each peak, so now there will be a trophy for each sailing leg as well.

Plan Ahead - Enter Early

It is never too early to enter and start training, and if you leave it until after Christmas the months quickly pass by.

We already have several entries (and one for 2023!) and there have been encouraging inquiries from schools, naval colleges and company teams looking to get involved.

So, it's looking good for 2022, when the race start will be July 9th.

We hope to see you there!

Yours in adventure,

The Three Peaks Yacht Race Crew
