Welcome to this week's update on Colombo's meal deals, food delivery and events. It was nice being able to get out of the house for a few days, even if the bars were closed and there was no live music. But here we are back home again but no stress, we've found quite a few things to keep us busy. Much of it involves eating, but we have found some other things too! Hope you've found our updated Deals pages. We've created separate pages for Breakfasts and High Teas as well as one for Meal Deals. which can be lunch or dinner. For just ideas on deliveries, check out the Delivery page. We keep looking for more online events, as you may have noticed and it's great to see some local events to include, with a couple of bands and musicians now having regular online sessions of music and conversation. You'll find these listed in our home page diary. We'll update the pages regularly with any events and new delivery places that we hear of. Stay Safe, Stay Well. Breakfast and Lunch As we head back home for a few more days, you might want to start the day with breakfast in bed. We've found two more breakfasts deliveries for you; we can't say that they will come in and serve it to you in bed, but you can have someone meet them at the door and bring it to you! The first suggestion is The Rare Bar. Their breakfast offerings include granola, croissants, bagels, french toast or a full grilled option. They offer breakfast from 7am to 11am. They also have lunch and dinner for delivery. The Caramel Pumpkin also deliver a cooked breakfast including sausage, egg, beans, toast and more. This cooked breakfast is available all day so will suit the late risers too. For lunch, you might like to try Ivy Lane's curry and rice packs. They offer a choice of chicken, beef, mutton or vegetable curry with rice, dhal, beetroot curry, malluma and more, served in a banana leaf basket. These are offered in a full basket for 7-8 people, half basket for 4-5 people or single packs. The Chaat are offering a nice deal of a portion of butter chicken, chicken tikka masala or handi chicken plus three naans for Rs990. So this might appeal if you have the urge for an Indian lunch (or Scottish; a Scottish restaurant claims to have invented chicken tikka masala!).

High Tea and Dinner: For many of us, high tea is a special treat. If you want to make it really exceptional, or if it is a regular thing for you and you want to enjoy something special, then try the luxury afternoon tea from Isabelle and Mimi including scotch eggs, smoked salmon sandwiches, home made scones with jam and clotted cream and more. Priced at Rs9,900 for two. For something lighter, the luxury cream tea is priced at Rs5,900 for three to four people. For a Chinese meal for the family, China Dragon are offering a Family Feast comprising a soup, munchbox, chicken, chop suey and rice. It says that it is for 3-4 people but the munchbox is only for two; however it's priced at Rs3000 and until 30 June it comes with a second portion of rice for free. Another family meal is on offer from NomNom Thai. Here you can get a whole Thai chicken ,and nasi goreng for three, priced at Rs2950. As we're in the mood for sharing, the Fish and Chips Colombo have introduced a Fish and Chips Sharing Box for two. This offers, for Rs2000, a portion of fish and chips for two including garlic bread and their home made tartar sauce. For more delivery ideas, check out our new Delivery page. or Meal Deals for offers and combos. We're not listing just any places offering delivery, but ones that are less well known, smaller or that offer something a bit different.

Live Music and DJs We have been really happy to find some more local bands, musicians and DJs online last week, with DJ Neco playing a live set last Saturday. We hope there will more this week. What we know for now is that on Thursday evening we can expect another acoustic music and chat from the Kani Trio, Kanishka Peiris and friends, at 7.30pm. On Sunday, the band Link will also have a live session at 7-8 with some music, chat and fun. On Friday night, Saturday morning (01.30) the rock superstars Def Leppard will be online, discussing photographs taken of them through the years. A few hours later, at 6.30am on Saturday, the band Train will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their biggest hit, "Drops of Jupiter", with a livestreamed show. And opera lovers, we've found one for you too. On Saturday evening at 8pm you can enjoy two hours of arias from some of the greatest operas. For more gigs and events, check our home page diary. It is updated and added to almost every day.

Other Events It may be because of the lifting of travel restrictions for a few days, but there seems to be fewer events for the coming days. However there are still some things to look forward to. And after all, it is only Wednesday so there is still time to launch events for this weekend! A couple of webinars of interest to students, jobseekers or career changers. On Saturday, at 5.30pm, a software architect will talk about careers in the tech industry, and on Sunday at 6pm the CEO of Long Island will talk about the fashion industry and entrepreneurship. On Saturday morning, if you can get up early, you might enjoy "Crazy Funny Asians" stand up comedy show at 8.30am. Alternatively on Monday, also at 8.30am there is a free "Live Comedy on Zoom", bringing the Comedy Club experience to our front rooms. Singer Sanjeev Niles has been hosting a weekly "Classic Crossover" chat with musicians from different genres on Tuesdays at 8pm. Next week's has not yet been announced but keep an eye on his Instagram or on our diary page. For those who miss travelling, we have some virtual travel opportunities for you this week. On Thursday 24th at 8.30pm you can explore the famous Montmartre area of Paris. On Friday 25th at 8.00pm you can experience Russia from a tourist's perspective through the eyes of a regular visitor. On Saturday at 7.30am (sorry, can't be helped) is your chance to explore Manila and the Makati district. While on Saturday evening at 7.00pm you can join a guide walking through the ancient Inca city of Machupicchu. Later the same evening at 8.30 is an opportunity to join a group backpacking the escalante route of the Grand Canyon. More events are being added to our diary almost daily so keep checking back and see what's new.
