ACTION ALERT: SB9 intends to allow single family homes to be replaced with up to 8 units! PLEASE use the link below to voice your opposition!

Information from Livable California

Do you like the idea of your single family home neighborhood destroyed and replaced with apartment buildings everywhere?  Do you think this is going to solve the homeless crises or make housing more affordable?  We will let you decide for yourself based on the SB 9 Fact Sheet that exposes some very dangerous loopholes in zoning laws and the current SB 9 bill under consideration.

In an email blast circulated this past week by Livable California:

"The public had no time to send their Opposition letters to the Assembly Local Government Committee. The committee’s agenda is set for June 9.

We urge you to send your group’s opposition letter, addressed to Assembly Local Government Chair Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, and sent as an email via the  committee staffer who is still accepting letters from the public: Hank.Brady@asm.ca.gov.

Please send your letter opposing SB 9 to Hank Brady NOW!..."

The entire text of the email blast is on our website on the "Articles of Interest" page.

Confrontational Videographer Active on Larchmont may be coming to Melrose!

You may have seen this also beginning to happen on Melrose too.  A recent article published in Larchmont Buzz explains this new phenomenon and positive steps you can take in order to not get yourself caught up in a confrontational videographer's desire to become the next YouTube star.

Simply put, we now have people with cell phones and cameras deliberately trying to bait employees, shoppers and sidewalk diners into a confrontation that will be posted on YouTube with the intended goal of becoming popular and no doubt make some profit in there too.

We have brought this up before, but feel it's worth mentioning again...

What brought you to sign up for our newsletters?  We want to believe it is because you wish to learn what's going on and to participate in advocating for a safer and cleaner neighborhood. Most of you who receive this email live in Zone 2 or are affected by what happens on Melrose.  This newsletter contains links to the meetings to sign up for the Melrose BID Crime meeting, most of the Mid City West Neighborhood Council meetings and the LAPD C-PAB meeting.

Here's the important part:  Neither the Melrose Bid or the MCWNC meetings have neighbors, referred to as "stakeholders", attend very often.  Most of the sub-committees for MCWNC have NO "stakeholders" attend showing NO interest by the neighborhood in what these committees are doing.  So what happens when elected representatives get no input from those they are voted to represent?  They go off and turn their attention to their own pet projects instead of advocating for the people and the neighborhoods they serve!

So PLEASE get involved!  If you find a meeting topic below that you are interested in and  if you can attend just ONE meeting to make a comment or offer support to someone making comment, it will make a difference!  Tell them you are part of The Melrose Village Neighborhood Alliance!
