Memory Bauble Trees

Did you come out to see the grand light up? Or have you seen them since?

If you haven't you should pop down for a peek as they are absolutely beautiful.

100 memory baubles were created to remember special people who are not with us this Christmas. Reading the loving comments is very heart warming.

Please feel welcome to go through the gate to take a closer look at everyone's efforts, as it would be a shame not to see them.

We are still playing around with the timings to get it perfect, but at the moment they are on between approximately 3.30pm and 9.00pm.

You have all helped us raise over £200 so far and this will be donated to St Leonard's Hospice in the new year. If you wish to make any further donations throughout the Christmas period a donations box can be found in the Bugthorpe Shop and Post Office.

The 12 Days of Christmas Photography Competition!

We are hosting a photography/drawing competition for adults and children alike. This competition will run until 2nd January when all submissions need to be handed in via email or at the Bugthorpe Shop and Post Office.

You can view the full details via the website but if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

We hope to see some lovely entries that can be featured on the website, and of course there will be a prize.

In addition to the village Christmas trees you were invited to share the celebrations by lighting up one window in your house throughout the Christmas period starting on 30 November, the day the trees were lit up.

We saw such an overwhelming response to this and it was amazing to see everyone's beautiful lights in the windows and gardens!

Thank you to everyone for helping to bring Bugthorpe to life this Christmas.

Church Services

Each week there is a broadcast church service at 10am. You can follow the link below to join or to watch afterwards. *No broadcast service on December 27th*

On the following dates there is a Holy Communion service. This will be celebrated in church, respecting social distancing and with hand sanitising and masks.

Unfortunately hymns cannot be sung. Communion is received in one kind as they cannot share the wine in the chalice.

Sunday 6th December - 11.15am - Bugthorpe

Sunday 13th December - 11.15am - Kirby Underdale

Sunday 20th December - 11.15am - Bishop Wilton

Christmas Services

Due to social distancing the upcoming Christmas church services will be held in Bishop Wilton's church, 'St Edith's', as it is the largest.

Everyone hopes to be back in our wonderful smaller churches for a more normal Christmas next year.

Christmas Eve 24th December

5pm - Benefice Family Christingle celebration at Bishop Wilton and music will be played and not sung.

There will be selection boxes for the children but these will have been wrapped and left for 72 hours before the service to avoid any risk.

11pm - Bishop Wilton short service with the blessing of the crib and Holy Communion.

Christmas Day 25th December

10am - Carol service broadcast.

With not being able to sing carols in church they thought it would still be nice to have the opportunity to sing in our own homes. They are pre-recording a lessons and carol service at St Andrew's, Bugthorpe, and it will be broadcast as the online service on the 25th but will be available afterwards via this link: www.garrowbychurches.com.

Local Walks on the Website

Have you looked at the new website feature!

There are now three local walking routes available on the website with accompanying directions, maps and photographs. The walks are of different lengths catering for all abilities but all allow the walker to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of the area in which we live – the views are breath taking.

Route No.4 is currently under construction so keep your eyes peeled!

Thank you to Katherine Robinson for presenting these walks so clearly for us all to enjoy safely, her work is very much appreciated.

History and Gallery on the Website

The website team is very grateful to Kit Richardson for not only designing our website but for keeping it up to date and looking so bright and attractive.

The HISTORY and GALLERY section can be found at the far right of the home page menu. There you will find a brief account of the history of Bugthorpe and wonderful photographs of times past and present, just like the one below. As ever we would be very happy to receive any photographs of Bugthorpe over the years to add to this valuable archive. Thank you to Ruth Beckett and Katherine Robinson for their detailed contributions to the site.
