Working from the heart
Tanaya Henry - Founder 1st Quarter 2023 Issue 2

Our Mission is to provide essential hygiene products to improve the health and self-esteem of adults and children in need. We can accomplish our mission due to our partnership with local food pantries.
Working within the food pantry system allows us to reach people in our community that is facing financial challenges.

One may not think to go to a food pantry to get anything other than food, but

the high cost of goods across the board has created a much deeper need,

and our community members sometimes need to figure out where else to turn to.
We at Traveler On A Mission would like to thank the food parties and soup kitchens in the Lower Naugatuck Valley

and the

Dixwell Ave area of New Haven for hearing your clients' needs and willingness to work with us to meet their hygiene needs.

Hygiene is at the heart of what we do; partnership is the vessel that keeps our community supported.

We encourage anyone who would like to learn more about

our work with the food pantries and beyond to contact the founder, Tanaya Henry, at tanayah@tomission.org

Deeper Dive into our program

Wellness Wagon

When you think of hygiene products, what do you think of soap, toothbrushes, and deodorant? All those things are correct.  TOAM looks at hygiene as anything close to the skin. We have a  list of 13 regular items we strive to maintain, and six of those items we consider our core.

When we started in 2019, our core items are

Sanitation napkins

Deodorant

Toothpaste /Toothbrush

Bar of soap

Shampoo

socks

Sometimes in the human service industry, we do what we think is needed, and through conversation, we learn that what our clients say may differ. Our surveys and conversations with our pantry partners have grown the list to include the items below.

Razors

Hand sanitizer

Lotion

Undergarments

Laundry detergent

Lysol wipes

Toilet paper

The item that needs to be added to our list that has been getting increasing requests is incontinent supplies.  The calls from senior housing communities, churches, and pantry partners tell us that our seniors are feeling the effects of inflation.  Many seniors receive incontinence supplies from their insurance that may consist of one or two packs per month.  That is not nearly enough to get by.

Traveler On A Mission strives to help all in need. If you want to help those struggling with the essential hygiene products we mentioned, consider hosting a hygiene drive on our behalf.

We understand if you can't commit the time to have a drive. That's o.k.

Our monthly giving program is also an option to support our work.
