PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Lynne Warne

“Do all your work in love."

(Corinthians 16:14)

February is known for being the month dedicated to love. But February isn’t just about Valentines and date nights; it can also be a month for fostering relationships with family and friends, and loving the unlovable.

We deal with all kinds of people in life, including some who are dishonest, disagreeable, defensive, and demeaning. You probably have someone in your own network of friends or family you don’t particularly like. That’s human nature.

SOCIAL OUTREACH

The Nashville Diaper Connection

Did you know that diaper need creates a cycle of poverty for families? The average cost of diapers for one baby is $93 per month. One in three families in Nashville struggles to afford diapers and they are not covered under any of the WIC or government assistance programs.

This month, NCBWL is supporting The Nashville Diaper Connection to help with this need. Its mission is to ensure that every baby in the state has enough diapers to remain clean, dry and healthy.

Please bring any size of diapers to our February meeting. We will also be collecting cash or checks to donate so they can purchase diapers in bulk. You can also donate directly to The Nashville Diaper Connection. Find out more from Lauren Barca at lauren.barca@gmail.com or visit www.nashvillediaperconnection.org to learn how you can help.

You can make a donation online by visiting the RSVP Page. An option to donate any amount is now available.

MARY FRANCES OBITUARY

"When I joined NCBWL, I was invited to sit at the table with Mary Frances, Sue Simpson (Mary Frances' sister and grandmother of Reverend Mark Simpson), and Dorothy Kain. They were welcoming to me and I have never forgotten their kindness, particularly Mary Frances."

"Dana brought joy and beauty whenever she was, her beautiful smile, lovely voice, her loving, caring and nurturing character, her faith and spirituality will always be remembered. Her passing has profoundly broken our hearts... but so grateful we met!"  Sheyla (Dana's friend)

DANA SACDALAN attended a couple of meetings in the Summer of 2021. She was very excited to join NCBWL and was looking forward to our monthly meetings. Sadly, she passed away on June 7, 2022 at the age of 49.

Eternal rest grant unto Mary Frances and Dana, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

FAQS

"What's the difference between a sister and a nun?"

Most people use the term nuns to refer to both nuns and sisters, but there are some significant differences. Nuns' lives are spent in prayer and work within their convent or monastery. Sisters are more active in the world, engaging in many different kinds of work, most often for people who are in great need. Sisters call these works “ministries.”

Both nuns and sisters are called women religious. What they have in common is that all women religious take vows to God, live in community, give themselves entirely to God for life and live in the spirit of the person/persons who founded their particular religious order.

When the Sisters of Mercy were founded by Catherine McAuley in 1831, most religious orders lived as nuns. They stayed in their convents and were seldom seen outside them. So when the Sisters of Mercy came on the scene in Dublin, Ireland, walking around looking for those in need, visiting the sick and poor people in their homes and visiting hospitals, people didn’t know what to think of them. So they called them “walking nuns.” Technically speaking, the Sisters of Mercy are sisters; that is, an apostolic community of women who combine a life of prayer with a life of active ministry. And we are still walking. (Source: www.sistersofmercy.org/faq)

JANUARY MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

January 18 at Coco's

What a fantastic welcome to a new year! Lynne Warne led another great meeting January 18 attended by a group of 28 ladies! It was wonderful to see some fresh faces and familiar ones on the first meeting of the year!

The one-hour mixer, which seemed short when you have a room full of friendly and energetic ladies, was followed by program and dinner. Highlight of the night was the presence of Rosemary Plorin, President and CEO of Lovell Communications. Her talk about a remarkable career journey in Public Relations and the "Inside Scoop: Leading a business built on leading with good news - and burying the bad!" was very engaging and inspiring at the same time.

Dinner was a delicious Italian meal served family-style, while an open bar certainly made for a livelier evening!

Many thanks for supporting our January Social Outreach Room In The Inn. Your generosity goes a long way!
