Februari, 2023 Hi, In this newsletter, I briefly tell you about 2 new portrait paintings, give a book tip, a museum tip and introduce a new service that I am very excited about! Followed by some sketches in oil I did some months ago. Finally, a sneak-preview! Frank |

"That experience made me look at myself differently: more amazed, more gentle and more loving!" |

I couldn't have wished for a nicer response. After a precious process of getting to know each other, a photo shoot, painting two portraits, this is what Arjo told me after the unveiling. With great pleasure and dedication, I completed 2 portraits in oil late last year for two dear clients. I have dedicated a blog (in Dutch and English) to the story behind them and the painting process. For that, click on the button below and to see both works in full. |

For those who sometimes visit Den Bosch, or have just never been there, I have a special tip. The Slager Museum, at Choorstraat 8, behind the Sint Jans Cathedral, gives a unique insight into the life and work of a family of painters; the Slager family in 's-Hertogenbosch. With eight painters, you can see an interesting development in painting over three generations. I did not know about the museum, even though I have lived in and around Den Bosch for 20 years.... It does not stand out as much in the commercial turmoil of other museums but it is definitely worth a visit. The Paintings of this family are stunning and what makes the visit extra special is that the museum is located in the house where this family lived and worked. Above is a very attractive example of the family's level of craftsmanship. I deliberately show a detail of this work because it is so sophisticatedly set up! I could stand by it for a day and marvel endlessly at the apparent ease with which the painter has deposited the buttery oil paint and modelled it on the canvas. If you look closely, you can still clearly see from the brushstroke how the brush made its way. Both in terms of design and (hot/cold) use of colour, the work has come about with great virtuosity. Tastes like more doesn't it? |

For some time now, I have admired Murakami's work. I find the way he mixes the world that is 'familiar to us' with his own imaginings unique and a joy to read. In 'The Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years Of Pilgrimage', you follow Tsukuru into adulthood. His childhood friends no longer want to know him overnight. And he doesn't know why. If you like themes of longing, love and friendship you should give this a chance. Interview with Murakami of the BBC. |

"In a very short time, I have really made strides. Things are flowing again and I am already looking forward to Frank's next lesson!" |

After the summer holidays, I was approached by someone here in my neighbourhood who was very keen to take up drawing again. She was not looking for a club or association. She clearly wanted someone who could guide her 1 on 1 on the creative path. I had already thought about teaching or organising workshops. But my own experiences kept me from pursuing such a thing. But this question got me thinking anyway. One-to-one coaching offers much more focus: we can go into more depth and longer into a subject. I can also tailor 'teaching material' to the individual. When I decided to do it, I actually got another request! After a few months, I decided to offer it as a separate service under the name Art Consult. I find that I really love doing it and I get very excited when I can talk about observing, drawing and painting. It is a privilege to convey the love of craftsmanship. Each session takes place about once every three weeks and lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. Afterwards, I compile a 'tailor-made report' with a mix of instructions, technical knowledge, exercises, tips, study materials and minutes of the session. If you like to read more about it go to this page on my website. Here is a link to the full review of Paulien. |

I recently completed the portrait of Fanu. After framing, my daughters will unveil the work. I am very curious what the owners will think of it and can hardly wait to send some images out into the world. Here is an image from the sketching phase. More on this in the next newsletter or keep an eye on my blogs. |
