Manslaughter Privilege by Ellen Huang

How quick we are to pity murderers. Not because we see ourselves in them, I don't think but because of course a white woman's perceived safety matters more than the life of the black human in his own home. Beautiful, you say. You exclaim, you advertise.

Asylum by Ed Meek

It's as easy as cutting a cord, to separate the mothers and children- the ones seeking asylum from gangs and violence, so desperate to flee they'll risk seizure by the border patrol and customs agents who need at least two officials- one who grabs the kids, the other the mothers- pinning their arms from behind, to pry them apart like oysters.

Most literary journals are open to submissions for a window of time each year. Sometimes it is a very long window. Sometimes it is more than one window. But it can be frustrating to visit their website and realize that they just closed to submissions.

The Writer's Workshop @ Authors Publish
