Hello, Members and Guests of the Arkansas Federation of Democratic Women! |
|
|
There’s lots of talk about 2022 statewide races in Arkansas, and right now, that’s all it is - talk. I’ve also seen people floating the idea that we should vote in the Republican primary to stop certain candidates from progressing - this isn’t a good strategy, especially not one to be thinking about so far in advance. Our strategy should be to find excellent Democrats to run at every position up and down the ballot and support them in their journey. Candidate filing is still over a year away! This week, ask someone to run for office - specifically ask someone to run for these 3 positions: your local school board Justice of the Peace / Quorum Court join a municipal committee
Don’t forget - that someone might be you! |

Join AFDW as we welcome members of the Senate and House Education Committees along with teachers from across the state to discuss what bad bills at the state level mean for education in Arkansas, and specifically how HB1231 and 1218 will impact curriculum. Reply to this email to submit questions in advance. You can register to attend via ZOOM below or the session will be broadcast on Facebook Live and will be recorded for later viewing. This will be an ongoing series to support statewide engagement, information sharing, and to connect ideas. Click HERE to register in advance for this meeting. It’s another big week in the Arkansas Legislature. You can always use https://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/ to see what’s happening day-to-day. We’ve also made a page on our AFDW website to help make it easier to see a full view of meetings and bills to watch out for and contact committees about - check it out here: https://www.arkansasdemocraticwomen.com/arleg-watch Please make an effort to contact the following committees about this #BadBill: The House Education Committee meets on Tuesday - ask them to VOTE NO on HB1231 which would prohibit the use of funds to teach the 1619 project and reduce funds to schools that do teach it. This bill would essentially ban teaching Black history in Arkansas. Contact info can be found here: http://bit.ly/ARHouseEducationCommittee |

Behind the Scenes! We need your help to track bills, organize information, and support the information that needs to be shared. - Track Bills - we have a digital log of bills that are filed each week. Can you help by researching a few and adding notes and key points?
- Organize Data - we're making it easier to contact different committees and groups. Can you help with some data entry work?
- Share and Create Content - we want to make sure no matter where you are online or not, you can get up to date information from AFDW. We need members to share from our Facebook and Instagram pages to their own pages and groups to help signal boost and amplify.
- Just click that SHARE button anytime you see new material.
- Share the information when you're talking to your friends on the phone or safely if you are gathering with friends or family.
- Register Voters - it's never too early to register to VOTE. Be sure to ask everyone you know if they are registered and ask them to confirm their voter information is still accurate. You can do this by visiting VoterView.
