Happy May!

Spring has finally sprung . . . at least I think so. Here in Vermont we often get snow in April and sure enough, last week we had a day of surprisingly heavy snow flurries. It all melted quickly, but it was a good reminder that those April showers are sometimes snow showers.

We had a successful lambing season here, seventeen lambs in all. The mothers and babies are healthy and eating well and I've caught up on my sleep. I've been reading a bit lately. (See below for some of my recent favorites.) And, I've been writing a lot, which is why I haven't been reading more. The third Maggie D'arcy mystery, which will be out in 2022, is due to my editor on June 1st so I've had my nose to the grindstone this month. It's set in West Cork, Ireland and I've loved having my head back in the gorgeous and mysterious little towns and villages along the Atlantic coast, getting Maggie into trouble and (hopefully) out of it again. I can't wait to share more details with you soon.

I'm also starting to plan events for the publication of A Distant Grave on June 22nd. My official launch will be on June 23rd at the Norwich Bookstore and I'll be doing events with some other wonderful indie bookstores too. Stay tuned to my website and social media channels for more events and registration details. I can't wait until I can do in-person events again, but there's a lot to love about virtual book parties too. Anyone can tune in from anywhere!

Happy Spring! Here's hoping that saying that doesn't cause another snow storm.

Publishers Weekly calls A Distant Grave a "strong sequel . . .Taylor’s adept at balancing plot and plausible characterizations. Tana French fans will be eager for the next series entry."

How's your To Be Read pile? It's been a good book month for me, with some new installments of favorite series and some other titles too. Here's a list of a few of the books I loved in April, in no particular order: There There by Tommy Orange; Blood Ties by Brian McGilloway; and The Darkest Evening and The Long Call, by Ann Cleeves; I also re-read Mystic River by Dennis Lehane. It's one of the books that made me want to write crime fiction and it was really fun to revisit it twenty years after its initial publication.

May is asparagus time around here and since our crop always seems to come all at once, I'm always looking for new ways to use it. Quiches, omelettes, and simply steamed are all good. I'm also partial to chopped asparagus in my scrambled eggs or mixed with lemon and served over pasta.  But I think my favorite might be the way my dad makes it -- steamed and seasoned, with lots of butter, on heavily buttered wheat toast.

Thanks for reading!
