This month we continue to work to reach our goal of funding three $7,000 scholarships, one for each of our recipients at Nashville's Catholic high schools. If you have not yet contributed, it is not too late! |

Virtual Auction & Scholarship Fundraiser Update |
The 2020 Pearls of Wisdom Scholarship Fundraiser has, so far raised is $20,594. That is $406 short of the $21,000 goal to give each high school $7,000 for our scholarships this year. The money raised so far comes from $17,484 in donations and $3,110 earned during our virtual auction. Donations came from 40 individuals and one foundation; 19 individuals purchased auction items. We will continue to take donations until October 12 so that we can get our donations to Father Ryan, Pope John Paull II and St. Cecilia Academy during the fall semester as is tradition. |
A few fun facts about our online auction: two items sold over value (lake house & gourmet dinner) and three auction donors were from last year’s Business Expo! All auction items have been paid for and delivered. We have received donations from 41 NCBWL members for this year's scholarships; 77 members have not yet made a donation. We know this year has been tough for many financially, however, if you are able to give to the scholarship fund, it is grately appreciated. Please use the button below to make your donation now. Whatever amount you can give will be appreciated. |

As we move closer to the holidays for 2020, we realize we have not been able to gather together in a while. We decided to postpone our 70th anniversary event until next fall, when we hope to be able to gather in larger groups without face masks. We will be meeting Oct. 21, see more below. We will make decisions about gatherings in November and December closer to those dates. |

Message from the President: A Time for Every Purpose Eccl 3: 1-11 |
This was the first reading for Friday, September 25, 2020. It is a very familiar bible passage which starts: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under the heaven:” Eccl 3:1. If you are of my generation, you might remember it as Turn! Turn! Turn! By the Byrds. As I read the passage, it resonated with me and how pertinent it was to this time. A time when we seem to be cancelling events and trying to navigate in this “pandemic era”. |
One of the stanzas is “a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing”, Eccl 3:5 (social distancing) and in another “. . .a time to keep silence, and a time to speak”, Eccl 3:7 (civil unrest, social justice and a need for healing). I encourage all of you to take out your bible and read this passage again. It made me reflect that we are not alone in this time and that it is not a unique time. God addressed these “seasons” many, many, many centuries ago and assured us that these times will pass. Even though we have not been meeting there has been a lot of NCBWL activity. Deb Fay and her team designed a very successful virtual Pearls of Wisdom fundraiser this year. Kudos to all of them and much thanks to all who donated to the scholarship fund, those who contributed an item to the auction and all who purchased an auction item. We are on track to meet or exceed our goal of awarding at least a $7,000 scholarship to each school. I am excited to see how we end. If you haven’t already contributed or would like to contribute again, there is a link on our website. The Anniversary Tea has been postponed. A decision had to be made by September 1 or we might have lost more than our deposit. Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey. There were only 20 “Yes, I will attend” responses. |
Based on these numbers, we would have lost money on the event plus this is an event for all of us to rejoice “a time to laugh” Eccl 3:4. We discussed the situation with the Hermitage Hotel and they have graciously allowed us to roll over the deposit to next year. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months. I hope we can all gather then. Now to the gathering news! Currently, an October dinner is being planned. It will be at Temple Hills Country Club on October 21st. Social distancing will be observed and everyone attending should wear a mask. If you have been exposed to COVID-19, are not feeling well, are not comfortable going out or for any other reason don’t feel this is for you, we will miss you but its best you stay home. For anyone wanting to get out and have some social time – Please Come. There are no plans for a Speaker. I made this decision because I have heard from members who would like to get together and without a speaker the dinner will be shorter. I hope you can attend. Please make reservations on our website. A Catholic woman has been nominated for the Supreme Court. She needs our prayers, not that she be confirmed, but that she will have the grace from God to defend her faith when it is challenged and questioned during the confirmation process. I miss you all and hope to see some of you in October and the rest soon. May God bless us and give us wisdom, knowledge, and joy. |

NCBWL 2021-23 Leaders Every two years the leadership positions for our organization turn over. Some women choose to stay on in their current roles but the vast majority vacate their positions, citing the need for new blood to help lead the NCWBL. Please search your soul and pray about using your skills and time for the benefit of our League. The Nominating Committee consists of Beth Lance, Nikki Moreland, and Lynne Warne. Please contact one of these women by November 1 if you are interested in being more involved in the NCBWL. We can assure you: There’s a spot for you! | | |
