Congratulations, Class of 2020! |
We know things are tough during these uncertain times, but it is important to remember that the virus will be gone eventually! That being said, we have taken many steps to adapt to these new circumstances. IPERC helped the Chinese embassy distribute various essential supplies such as masks disinfectant whips, and medicine pills to our students. For our class of 2020, IPERC student coordinators in different locations took special care to send yard signs, cards, and gift bags to each of their students. In video recordings, student coordinators gave their best wishes and love to students as they strive to achieve their continued goals. Perhaps the most exciting news of all, many students received acceptance letters from their dream schools! Among which include universities such as Emory, Cornell, UCLA, and NYU! We look forward to the continued growth of our students as they embark upon this next chapter of their lives! |

The Papp Family Gave Jancy A Surprise Graduation Celebration |
In light of the many cancelations for graduation ceremonies, the host parents of Jancy Zhang (Walsh Jesuit, Cleveland) organized a surprise graduation celebration, in which the family loft was decorated, and teachers drove by with posters, gifts, and encouraging words! We deeply appreciate the contributions of the Papp family for their heavy influence on Jancy's growth in the United States. They put a lot of time and effort into helping her develop the confidence and skills she needs for success in the future. One great example of this is Jancy's musical talent. Her band "Skipping Stones" were able to hold practice sessions in the Papp's basement, in which the host father was able to give a lot of advice. |

Online Q&A Meeting with Schools |
Due to COVID-19, extra precautions are being taken to ensure the continued safety of our incoming students and staff for fall 2020. In the interest of clarity, IPERC has invited many of our schools such as The Summit Country Day School, Cincinnati Country Day School, The Albany Academies, and Chaminade College Preparatory to have zoom meetings with incoming students and their parents to answer any questions they may have about schools' re-open plans/policies, course selections, school clubs, testing plans and US high school life in general. In the coming weeks we will continue to reach out to additional schools (by phone or by email) to set up greater lines of communication between parents, students, and schools. IPERC appreciates the continued patience and corporation of both parents and schools during these uncertain times. |

Pre-arrival Checklist Survey Reminder |
In the past few weeks we have been sending emails to schools where they can access a pre-arrival survey in regards to schools calendars, course selection, and other policies to better prepare students and schools for future arrivals. We deeply appreciate each school taking the time to complete this survey. To any schools that have not yet filled out the survey, you can access it here. IPERC thanks you for your continues cooperation. |

A Message to Our Host Families |
IPERC would like to thank each of you for your dedication to caring for your students. As the end of the school year has arrived, our coordinators are working to keep track of student travel plans and provide updates to you as soon as possible. This is not an easy task and has lead to frustration for many students, parents, and host families as tickets are difficult to book and flights have been cancelled. This has called for patience and flexibility on everyone's part and after the past few months, these things can be very difficult to find. IPERC would like to make it clear to host families that they are under no obligation to host their student(s) during the summer. It's been a long few months and we understand that families need a break. In an effort ease some of the burden for our families, we have been fortunate in receiving several offers from the IPERC community to provide summer hosting for students who will not return to China AND for students who are still trying to return but have had no luck thus far. We would like to express our gratitude to those families who continue to host their students and to those who are temporarily hosting new students this summer. If you haven't done so already, please contact your local coordinator for a summer host family agreement. Monthly stipends and food payments will continue as usual at the same rate. Student Insurance: For students remaining in the US this summer, IPERC is extending coverage so that students will continue under the same policy and will not need a new insurance card. Summer Activities: As states begin to open, IPERC student coordinators will begin planning outdoor summer activities for the students. Some students may still be apprehensive about getting out to participate in activities out of continued concern over the virus. For summer host families, please be sensitive to this. Please let your local host family coordinator know if you have any questions and thank you again for all that you give to your students! |
