The Renee Crown Wellness Institute is "a home for research and practice that is dedicated to the social and emotional wellness of all young people, and because we believe wellness must be understood in context, the wellness of adults who support them." On September 12, 2022, the Institute held a private reception and sofa talk event, featuring noted journalist and former Essence Magazine editor Linda Villaroso, an alumnae of the University of Colorado, New York Times writer, author, novelist, educator, and international speaker. Ms. Villarosa discussed her new book, Under the Skin: The Hidden Toll of Racism in America and the Health of our Nation. Ms. Villarosa also authored Medicine, Chapter 12 of The 1619 Project. The invitation-only event was followed by one open to the public. The highly informative, interactive sofa talk was intriguing. For more info on Ms. Villarosa's publication, see the link below. Sister-to-Sister, Inc. wishes to recognize Sister Michelle D. Simpson, principal event planner. Sister Michele is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Philosophy, Arts & Culture Residential Academic Program at CU Boulder. She's also a faculty member of the Student Academic Success Center, the Honors Residential Academic Program, and the Program for Excellence in Academics and Community. Her courses reflect her passion and commitment to topics including anti-racism, anti-Blackness, social justice, and the exploration of the intersections that inform myriad lived experiences. |
