SUMMER YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM 
 
The Youth Empowerment Program kicked off the first session of its summer program this week with 12 new students. Students and their families began the day with a tour of the farm and met the YEP and City Farm SLO team. Our facilitators wasted no time in getting the students’ hands in the soil. Our "Yeppies" (as they named themselves!) harvested carrots (they may have eaten a few or more), learned about irrigation systems, and moved and assembled a sprinkler irrigation system on the YEP Farm, a 1.25 acre parcel of designated land at City Farm SLO. They also shared their personal stories of success, took part in our SMART Goals workshop, and set their own SMART goals for the future. 
The carrots will be distributed to the SLO Food Bank, along with all produce grown on the YEP Farm. Watch the Yeppies' journey unfold by following our Instagram - @cityfarmslo

FACES OF CITY FARM SLO  

Meet Gissel Neri Corcoles, Youth Empowerment Program Facilitator 
Since April 2021, Gissel has worked to design and lead YEP with passion and expertise. Beyond facilitating this program, she is leading the regenerative farming activity of the YEP Farm - 1.25 acres of land at City Farm SLO producing crops for the SLO Food Bank. 
Gissel’s passion for her work at City Farm SLO is inspired by the members of the YEP and the opportunity to help people connect with our food system. Gissel is a  recent first-generation college graduate with a degree in Agricultural Science at Cal Poly SLO. She plans to continue her education by pursuing a master's in the same field.
We are so fortunate to have Gissel on our City Farm SLO Team!
