July 1st: Canada Day

June 26th: Annual General Meeting and Eid al-Adha

We are thrilled to share the highlights of our Annual General Meeting and Eid al-Adha celebration held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024. It was a fantastic evening filled with joy, unity, and community spirit. We were honored to be surrounded by so many of our own wonderful members, as well as members from other communities across the region.

Our evening commenced with a comprehensive Activity Report where we reviewed the achievements and milestones of the past year. This was followed by a detailed Financial Report. Finally, we presented the candidates for our upcoming Board of Directors Election. Throughout the evening, we heard inspiring speeches about our various projects, activities, areas of operation, and organizational structure. Employees, interns, members, and the Board of Directors shared their experiences and insights, highlighting the impactful work of the Afghan Women’s Centre of Montreal.

After the AWCM's AGM, our Eid al-Adha celebration was elevated by the enchanting sounds of gypsy jazz music performed by talented musicians. Guests also enjoyed exploring our Afghan jewelry and traditional dress stand, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan. Our heartfelt thanks go to the catering team for their hard work in preparing a delectable spread of Afghan cuisine.

Get Involved in Our Exciting Theater Project!

It will be a collaborative effort where everyone will have the opportunity to contribute their unique talents within the theatrical realm. In addition to production volunteers, we are also inviting Afghan, racialized, and/or immigrant women to come and share their real-life experiences of immigration and/or integration into Montreal society with us so that we can collaborate with scriptwriters in order to make their stories come to life on stage. Our aim with this project is to empower the socially-isolated immigrant, racialized, and English-speaking populations of Quebec by giving them a voice and platform. 

To prepare for our March 2025 performance, we will be offering various theater workshops starting in late summer 2024. These workshops will allow participants to select roles according to their interests and existing skill sets. 

Whether you have experience in acting, directing, scriptwriting, set design, or any other area of theater, we encourage you to join us. Your participation will be invaluable in bringing this project to life.

Join Our Crafting Unity Project!

We are delighted to invite participants to join us for this enriching initiative. Our Crafting Unity Project invites racialized and immigrant women and university students from various cultural backgrounds to come together and collaborate on monthly workshops aimed at skill and story sharing among community members and crafting experts. These workshops are designed to foster intercultural and intergenerational exchange by providing local university students with the opportunity to learn valuable traditional crafting skills from racialized and immigrant women in Montreal. Participants will create a project roadmap followed by a series of monthly traditional handicraft workshops, including jewelry making, textile garment creation, and crochet. The final activity will be a vernissage event of dialogue and exchange where participants will showcase the beautiful artistic creations they made to the public. 

We welcome participants from all backgrounds and skill levels to join us in this creative, collaborative and educational journey.

Get ready for an exciting summer event hosted by the Afghan Women’s Center of Montreal! We're thrilled to announce our upcoming Summer Picnic, scheduled for late July/early August. What began as a means to combat social isolation has grown into a joyful celebration of community and togetherness. This gathering is more than just a day out—it's a chance for women and other members of the AWCM community to come together and enjoy a day of unity and fun. Stay tuned for more details—it's going to be a day filled with laughter, delicious food, and heartwarming moments! 

Peter Mcgill and the new Sanaaq Cultural Community Centre 

Our office neighbors, regular collaborators, colleagues, and friends at Peter McGill are opening the Sanaaq Cultural and Community Centre in 2025, which will meet the numerous needs of the Ville-Marie community’s population that are currently suffering from a lack of municipal cultural and community facilities. The Centre will feature a performance hall, library and socio-community spaces. In addition to rich and varied programming, the centre will also offer a collection of books in various languages, including Farsi. We congratulate our dear friends on this amazing accomplishment.

1 Juillet: Joyeuse fête du Canada

26 Juin: Assemblée Générale Annuelle et Eid al-Adha

Nous sommes ravis de partager les moments forts de notre Assemblée générale annuelle et de notre célébration de l'Aïd al-Adha qui ont eu lieu le mercredi 26 juin 2024. Ce fut une soirée fantastique remplie de joie, d'unité et d'esprit communautaire. Nous avons été honorés d'être entourés par tant de nos merveilleux membres, ainsi que par des membres d'autres communautés de la région.

Notre soirée a débuté par un rapport d'activité complet où nous avons passé en revue les réalisations et les étapes de l'année écoulée. Cela a été suivi par un rapport financier détaillé. Enfin, nous avons présenté les candidats pour notre prochaine élection du conseil d'administration. Tout au long de la soirée, nous avons entendu des discours inspirants sur nos différents projets, activités, domaines d'opération et structure organisationnelle. Les employés, les stagiaires, les membres et le conseil d'administration ont partagé leurs expériences et leurs perspectives, mettant en lumière le travail impactant du Centre des femmes afghanes de Montréal.

Après l'assemblée générale annuelle du CFAM, la célébration de l'Aïd al-Adha a été rehaussée par les sons enchanteurs du jazz manouche interprété par des musiciens talentueux. Les invités ont également apprécié notre kioske de bijoux afghans et de vêtements traditionnels, qui mettait en valeur le riche patrimoine culturel de l'Afghanistan. De plus, nous remercions chaleureusement l'équipe de restauration pour le travail acharné qu'elle a accompli en préparant un délicieux repas de cuisine afghane.

Merci encore pour votre soutien et votre participation. Nous sommes impatients de vivre de nombreux autres événements et célébrations couronnés de succès.

Impliquez-vous dans notre Passionnant Projet Théâtral!

Ce sera un effort collaboratif où chacun aura l'opportunité de contribuer avec ses talents uniques dans le domaine théâtral. En plus des bénévoles pour la production, nous invitons également les femmes afghanes, racialisées et/ou immigrantes à partager avec nous leurs expériences réelles d'immigration et/ou d'intégration dans la société montréalaise, afin que nous puissions collaborer avec les scénaristes pour donner vie à leurs histoires sur scène. Notre objectif avec ce projet est de donner une voix et une plateforme aux populations socialement isolées, immigrantes, racialisées et anglophones du Québec.

Pour nous préparer à notre représentation de mars 2025, nous proposerons divers ateliers de théâtre à partir de la fin de l'été 2024. Ces ateliers permettront aux participants de choisir des rôles selon leurs intérêts et leurs compétences existantes.

Que vous ayez de l'expérience en tant qu'acteur, réalisateur, scénariste, décorateur ou dans tout autre domaine du théâtre, nous vous encourageons à vous joindre à nous. Votre participation sera inestimable pour donner vie à ce projet.

Impliquez-vous dans notre Projet Crafting Unity!

Nous sommes ravis d'inviter les participants à nous rejoindre pour cette initiative enrichissante. Notre Projet Crafting Unity invite les femmes racialisées et immigrantes ainsi que les étudiants universitaires de divers horizons culturels à se réunir et à collaborer lors d'ateliers mensuels axés sur le partage des compétences et des histoires parmi les membres de la communauté et les experts en artisanat. Ces ateliers visent à favoriser les échanges interculturels et intergénérationnels en offrant aux étudiants universitaires locaux l'opportunité d'apprendre de précieuses compétences traditionnelles d'artisanat auprès des femmes racialisées et immigrantes de Montréal.

Les participants créeront une feuille de route de projet suivie d'une série d'ateliers mensuels de création d'artisanat traditionnel, comprenant la fabrication de bijoux, la création de vêtements textiles et le crochet. L'activité finale sera un vernissage de dialogue et d'échange où les participants présenteront au public les magnifiques créations artistiques qu'ils auront réalisées.

Nous accueillons les participants de tous horizons et niveaux de compétence pour nous rejoindre dans ce voyage créatif, collaboratif et éducatif.

Restez à l'écoute pour notre Pique-Nique Festival fin Juillet/début Août

Préparez-vous pour un événement festival passionnant organisé par le Centre des femmes afghanes de Montréal! Nous sommes ravis d'annoncer notre prochain pique-nique estival, prévu fin juillet/début août. Ce qui a commencé comme un moyen de lutter contre l'isolement social s'est transformé en une joyeuse célébration de la communauté et de l'unité. Cette rencontre est bien plus qu'une simple journée à l'extérieur : c'est une occasion pour les femmes et les autres membres de la communauté du CFAM de se retrouver et de profiter d'une journée de solidarité et de plaisir. Restez à l'écoute pour plus de détails - ce sera une journée remplie de rires, de délicieux repas et de moments réconfortants!

Le Nouveau Projet de Peter McGill

Nos voisins de bureau, collaborateurs réguliers, collègues et amis à Peter McGill ouvriront le Centre culturel et communautaire Sanaaq en 2025, qui répondra aux nombreux besoins de la population de la communauté de Ville-Marie qui souffre actuellement d'un manque d'installations culturelles et communautaires municipales. Le Centre comprendra une salle de spectacle, une bibliothèque et des espaces socio-communautaires. En plus d'une programmation riche et variée, le centre offrira également une collection de livres dans différentes langues, y compris le farsi. Nous félicitons chaleureusement nos chers amis pour cette réalisation incroyable.
