Viral Induced Wheeze in children... |
What is viral induced wheeze? A viral induced wheeze is the whistling sound the chest makes whilst breathing out. This occurs then the airways are irritated and inflamed by the virus, causing the tubes to swell and narrow. Wheezing in babies and young children is a common symptom of a viral infection following a cough, cold or chest infection and some young children can go onto develop asthma. It can be difficult to distinguish between a viral and asthma wheeze, as both are caused by bronchospasm. Bronchospasm involves the constriction of the smooth muscle layers of the small airways. However, children with asthma can have wheezing that is not caused by a viral infection. Wheezing can often last for weeks, even after the infection has cleared and some children may experience severe bronchospasm that require hospital treatment. How can salt therapy help? The inhaled fine salt particles will gently penetrate the lining of the bronchial tubes and draw the excess fluid into the airway to reduce inflammation and swelling. The particles also help to thin mucus, making it easier to cough up. Hence during a session, you may experience a dry or tickly throat, runny nose or increased coughing. |

Lily & Boe's Story... Thank you to Lily & Boe's mum for sharing their experience of salt therapy for coughing and viral induced wheezing. |
“We started salt therapy for Lily when she was 3 years old because every time she had a cough she would need antibiotics and it would take a long time to clear. For over a year every time she caught a cold and the coughing started, I would book her in for treatment. I noticed from the start the salt helped prevent her cough from worsening and would clear up quicker without needing antibiotics. When she was 6 years old, she was tested for asthma and thankfully was given the all clear. Boe started having salt therapy from 2 years old as he started having colds that went to his chest, making him cough and wheeze. The doctors later diagnosed this as a viral induced wheeze. Before trying salt therapy, Boe was admitted to the hospital at least once a month and staying from 1 to 5 nights, this happened for about 5 months. He’s 3 years old now, we still visit the clinic at the first sign of a cold to prevent him getting worst and being hospitalised.” says mum Jane. |

I’ll be playing the Dowager Duchess in the production - it’s been a long time since I played young wives and lovers! My daughters are paying two of the naughty sisters The action is set in 1912, in the Abbey, somewhere near Aspley Guise, home to the Earl of Husborne Crawley and his three wayward daughters, wife and eccentric servants. It is on the verge of falling into the hands of a distant relative, unless someone can come up with a devious scheme to keep it in the family. Performances are on 16-18 November at Aspley Guise Village Hall, curtain up 7:30. Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions for under 16s and over 65s) and are for sale online at ticket source.co.uk/chameleons |
