Kia ora, yay,

Having just watched the Fifa Women's World Cup games in Wellington and Dunedin, I have a new-found passion for football! Inspiring me this month is seeing everyone back it and feeling uplifted by the collective support.

With my face painted and a new back catalogue of chants, I've been absorbed in camaraderie.

I spent some time with the Ministry for Pacific Peoples visiting different parts of Aotearoa, connecting with the Pasifika community. We heard about people's challenges and what they want to see more of for their families.

Stand outs for me were the need for more representation, pathways to opportunities that are actually accessible, and to feel a sense of belonging.

Below is an illustration from the Auckland part of the tour. I was privileged to witness incredible dance, singing, colour and the food, oh, the FOOD!

As I sit off to the side of the room scribbling silently with my iPad and pencil, it's both beautiful and humbling to witness a common thread I see, regardless of the topic or workshop. Regardless of race, gender, status or age...

It's people looking for connection and belonging, via a shared purpose.

Dipping in and out of different collectives, businesses and projects, I've observed this need which seems to be increasingly unfulfilled in today's digital society - that sense of community (whether that be your 'work family' or football team).

Coming together in person to share ideas or challenges helps us feel less alone, even when we don't have the solution.

Yet.
