Dear Music Lovers and Friends of NAVO,
We hope this message finds you well! Since our last concert in May, we have been busy preparing for the launch of our 10th season! With the blink of an eye and your continuous support, we are ecstatic to be reaching this significant milestone!
As it has become a trademark of our programs, this season will pair beloved classical masterpieces with premieres and works by renowned contemporary composers, including Eleanor Alberga, Mohammad Fairouz, Gabriela Lena Frank, Jessie Montgomery, Alexander Pozdnyakov, Ingrid Stölzel, and Dinuk Wijeratne. In addition to presenting our free concert series at Atonement Lutheran Church, we are expanding the reach of our organization with a selection of ticketed events hosted at the 1900 Building and Folly Theater. Another new initiative this season will be the introduction of a short festival in May 2025.
The season opens with a spectacular program at Folly Theater in collaboration with Park University ICM on Friday, September 20, 2024. The event features superstar pianist Behzod Abduraimov and the premiere of a newly revised version of Genius Loci by NAVO’s composer-in-residence Ingrid Stölzel under the baton of Shah Sadikov.
Continuing our tradition of composer portraits, the October 12 program is dedicated to the works of Kansas-based composer Ingrid Stölzel and will include the world premiere of a new song cycle. On November 30, join cellist Sunnat Ibragimov and friends for a Thanksgiving celebration filled with surprises!
Mark your calendars for our 2025 performances! February 22 brings Neoclassical Fervor: Stravinsky, Ravel, and Shostakovich, a dynamic program of virtuosic solo works with orchestra with soloists pianist Steven Spooner and violinist Véronique Mathieu led by Shah Sadikov. NAVO celebrates the legacy of cellist Daniel Veis on March 22 with a tribute concert featuring iconic cello repertoire. In April, the Frontier String Quartet, a subset ensemble of NAVO, presents a captivating chamber music collaboration in multiple venues.
NAVO’s inaugural festival in May 2025 will spotlight artist-in-residence violinist Maria Ioudenitch. Having recently taken first prizes at the Ysaÿe International Music Competition, the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, and the Joseph Joachim International Competition, Ioudenitch will be featured in three exceptional concerts: a recital with her father, pianist Stanislav Ioudenitch, a chamber music evening with NAVO artists, and a solo performance of Mozart’s Turkish Violin Concerto with NAVO Chamber Orchestra.
This exceptional 10th season is made possible with the generosity, support and vision of Jim P. Zakoura and Reach Out Kansas.
Warmest wishes,
Véronique, Shah, and everyone at NAVO
